Anyone running lake style headers on a flathead? I cobbled together a kit from Speedway, then bought the muffler inserts. I don't want to run an exhaust system all the way out the back of the car but want it livable in the loud department. I thinking about just using the cap offs on the cone then dumping the exhaust out the bottom through the cut outs. Is this feasible with the muffler insert in place? My other option is to make another cap with a turndown for the end of the cone; easily doable.
I've been running them for 10+ years. At first, I ran baffles. Then, I just ran them open (been doing it for a long time). A flathead aint that loud compared to an OHV engine. But, lately, I've been thinking about putting the baffles back in for long trips.
Loud is just right!! Chick gets the question all time "Are those legal?" on her daily driven 28 roadster with OHV Lakes pipes with baffles. She just smiles
I have the same kit on my Model A. My grandson and I built them a few years ago and they have a little bit of noise to them especially at 5:15am when I go to work. I whipped up a couple of small mufflers and attached them to the headers with a band clamp. They work just right, take the bite out of the open headers but sound great. Cliff Ramsdell
