Hot Rods Laker build...Bonneville or bust!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fortypickup, Dec 18, 2011.

  1. I think your front "wide five" problem is the 36 drum/hub. You need a 37-38-39 with Ford drum brakes. Compare the "snouts" on yours to the ones in the picture.

The scallops to me scream out for attention. I like subtle. Low-key. Sometimes I stray from that but not too much.. This is kind of subtle but a paint scheme that will make your car stand out as your own.

First, I played with the wheels.. The maroon contrasted nicely with the black paint but the red scallops don't really sit well with me. If you gave me that car all finished and in primer and told me to toy with the paint scheme but using black and red, this is what I would have done. In your rendering, it shows that you want to divide the fibergl*** part from the body with the color scheme, which I dug. It draws attention to the part that was put on there all those years ago. I just didn't dig the black and red..

So I decided to use my incredibly bad photoshopping skills (hard for me to modify something if it's black) and played with the brush tools and smudging it some and got this..

The black line goes down the body line underneath the 'gl*** part separating the 'gl*** part from the main body and could disappear into the cowl. On the back, you could paint the rear half black (from the body line up, covering the top of the quarters and trunk), almost like a two tone separating the 'gl*** part from the rear.

Another pro is you don't have to worry about the rest of the body being super straight for black paint like you would just the top rear half..

But this isn't my car. I'm just toying around with it.. I'll see what else I can turn up. Do it however you want! :D

Edit: leaning back and squinting at my picture helps quite a bit.. :)

Cool are you leaving the zinc gas filler or is that just a place holder for something else later.

Thanks redzula...no that filler cap is just to cover the gas tank hole. I'll weld that up later.

Don't s**** it, just move to another part of the car until the right plan falls into your mind.

Why not reshape the lower end of the windshield frame to match the curve of the '32 stanchions.

I found this mirror at a 2nd hand store. I like the curved arm...it should bolt up to the post we shall see!

I got it for 10 or 11 bucks...fits the Nickel and Dime theme! :D
