Lakes Modified Parts/40 Ford donor?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JaysinSpaceman, Mar 16, 2010.

  1. OK, I need some HAMB help with some parts questions I have.

I have been knocking around the Idea of building a two man lakes modified out of a 25 dodge brothers cowl and body parts that I have and looking at and for parts to begin the build. Well today I was dropping off some tires to be changed and I noticed what's left of a early 40's ford car sitting behind the shop. So I asked about it and it's for sale, I could probably get it for $300. The V8 is gone but the rest of the drivetrain is there, closed drive rear end, trans, front axle with the stock drums and what not.

Here's my questions. Would the front and rear ends work for a small modified? Or are they too wide? I know that the 40 Ford front drums would be great on a wee modified but is the 40 front axle something that could be used/modified? When it comes to the rear end, is there a open drive conversion available for the early 40's rears and are the axles strong enough for spirited driving in a light weight modified?

So there they are, any help would be appreciated. If these parts could be used, or at least some of them, this would be a great start to getting the chassis part of my modified under way. :)

    Thanx

Great match - just like what was used in the day!

  5. Thanx very much guys. I will go by and pick it up tomorrow. Does $300 sound like a good price? I honestly don't know what kind of shape all the parts are in, other then old and rusty.

    Thanx again,
    Jaysin
