I'm thinking about making a set of lakes pipes. Anyone know what size tube is normally used? I'm going to make stainless ones coz I got all the stuff to do it. Just need to get the pipe and make the caps.

  2. I assume you are going to make your own cones - I'd make the small end of the cone the same diameter as the pipe you use to connect to the header flange. Then I think they usually have 3 or 4 inch openings on the big end. What ever you like the looks of.

please post pics when of the process - it would be great to see.

I will post pics. I'm not actually going to hook em up, just for the effect. + mine's a 4dor anyway so I can't legally run them open. My exhaust exits under the body behind the RH rear wheel. Just a bit hidden and a lot illeagal. I thought the tube dia. was about 2 inch or there about but noboby has em here. Not a decent custom parts store for 500 miles.

  4. Oh - I was thinking lakes style header pipes - you are talking about putting the fake pipes down the running boards for a custom - sorry - disregard

They made them in both 1 3/4" and 2". Source J.C. Whitney 1961.

You can't make them yourself much cheaper than for what Night Prowlers sells them. Don't forget to buy the brackets too.

Thanks for the replys. I have all the gear and materials at work to make a pair of 70" single pipes. It will take a bit of my time but hey, thats what its all about. I did a search for night prowlers and ended up on a porn site. Took me 7 hours to get out of there....
I eventually found the site, lots of cool stuff. In Australia a set of pipes is around $400 by the time I get em home, and the chrome I saw on a couple of sets was shyte. I see in the states they are around US$110. Thats only $2.20 here.

Johns rod 'n' custom has them, but I don't think they be cheaper than you can make them for. What are they going on Louie?

They are around $380 + del to SA. I believe his are pretty good quality, but I seen some crap ones too. Going on a dirty ass Dodge. 54 Kingsway sedan minus all the diecast chromed rubbish that they were adorned with. I'll post some pics soon. Just need to take some photos when I get time, to busy driving.

  11. Heh heh! I did the same thing with searching for night prowlers. Had to reboot my puter to get rid of all the shit. I've since bought several things from Gary, he's a straight-up helpful guy. And it's cheaper to buy from him than from John's Rod and Custom despite the huge difference in distance.
