I am running Limefires on my SBC and capped off the collector drop. I bought baffles from a VW Dune Buggy Shop that sells them for a 3" Stinger VW exhaust. They fit like a glove. To keep them in, I drilled out some flange caps and it works excellent. Reduced the header noise by 50% to 60%.

The VW baffles cost $16.00 each

Thanks for the vids Marx, very helpful.

Sounds pretty much the same at idle with all of them, but the baffles then caps at rev really change things.

No that is actually the "traditional" way that the lakes hedders were and are run.

The last friggin thing I want is exhaust blatting away three feet from my ear for 1000 miles on a road trip. I get tired enough of the noise from the pipes dumping in front of the rear wheel on my ot truck with burned out gl*** packs.

The next thread topic for lakes hedders will be "what kind of ear plugs work best"?

I love a set of sweet sounding pipes but I don't want the racket in my ear for miles on end.

Yes, Matt is the man and an alliance vender.
I teased Matt that the LakesHeaders baffels were too quiet on my Banger, you can choose the sound with different caps provided.
Go with bolt in baffels on what ever brand you build, so you can allways change DB's.

Marx, thanks for posting the vids. The pipes sound great. I am going to do mine the way chop509 did his. I'm hoping to take one gl*** pack and cut it in half to use on both sides. Chop509 if you have vid with sound could you please post it.:) Thanks.

  7. I had Matt at Lakepipes.com make me up a set of headers for my Rocket. The baffles he supplied are installed with just two screws. I got some motorcycle muffler packing and wrapped the baffles, then installed them. At idle they have a nice low tone and it is not annoying. Going down the road a nice rumble and still not annoying. They will crack during acceleration, but again not that bad. I have gone by the cops here and have had no problems at all.

I am extremely pleased with the sound and the fact I was able to eliminate that ugly down tube from my last set of headers.

I was at a cruise-in the other night and folks were surprised at how quiet they were and were asking me who made them.

Matt makes a great quality set of headers, at a good cost, and in a timely manner, and is a good guy to deal with......and a HAMB Vendor.

They make cone shaped baffles for hot rod VW pipes/extractors that are dirt cheap and work well, maybe in the $20.00 or less range. They fit the lakester headers and can be installed with a rubber mallet. Jim Rizzo from R&C turned me on to them.
