Gotta love the HAMB... the voice of experince is out there and it is a great way to avoid disappointment... but, unfortunately on this one I'm going to play the cl***ic role of a teenager - hear the truth and still do it my way... I just can't bring myself to raise it higher because I'm more worried about how they would have built it to race than being practical... I still appreciate the input (cause I know you are right)... and the next time it may be on a subject that's about safety not looks and I will really be greatful for not doing something stupid

found this while looking for a rear pinion seal... not about my car but shows the era that I like... Hey, my Y block will be covered up... but, it will represent a updated old racer with Henry's newest over head valve motor

How Ironic... looks at the side of the car... Bugs... I met this gentleman a a car show and he couldn't leave my car... he talked for hours about the memories it brought back and related one story after another... the next day he came back and said his helmit belonged to this car... I was overwelmed and told him that his name would be painted on the side as the driver in tribute of this moving act... I pinstripper at the show who knew him quickly added the name...

Actually no more bugs than no windshield... by the way the helmit was ordered by Bugs from across the pond after the war and he said it seemed like it took forever because he wasn't permitted to race without it... he said it was a Cromwell?

A curious note... the car will be painted a warm gray... and while I'm messing with the windshield I keep thinking of tinted gl***... my 57's had it as an option but other than the motor everything on this build is older... so my question is - what year did they start using tinted gl***?

Found these on another thread... window sticker was 1955...

Tall for the street but a variation I hadn't seen before... the mock-up was done using posts with a string and level arcoss both planes to keep the top level... the curved top on this one is interesting... I've been going back thru the books looking at early custom windshields and most are higher in the center...

Its good to have a plan for the next project (windshield) and have time to think while you complete the last project (hood)... thats Carey's approach and it works...

The side panel that is removed in this picture will have two latches and the opposite side will be hinged... tight fit all the way around...

Carey tested the latches first to ensure proper spacing and function... the first set we bought failed this test - they were bigger and would have required rework...these are vintage Cushman latches and they lock to eliminate vibration concern of coming unlatched at high speeds...

I was really happy about your roadster until the windshield ideas started being thrown around. And then the version you decided on looks good to me, real good. I never liked the heavily V'd windshields because they seemed to be a detail that overwhelmed the simplicity of the rest of the car and became the focal point rather than a minimalistic functional part.

I have a 9" straight gl*** on my T. I was looking above the widshield and the wind was right over the top of my head. So it was good. I have this last year lowered the seat and now I look at the edge of the gl*** and sometimes thru the gl*** if I slouch a little.

Early morning condensation while driving on the gl*** makes looking thru a problem. Both sides get covered, inside and outside. Rain-X makes it worse. So being able to stretch a little higher and look over the top helps.

Day time eyewear is sungl***es and night time is clear goggles. Rain is clear goggles and as long as I'm rolling along, wet feet and shoulders on up. Stopping in traffic, not so good.

Back of scoop... center bolt is longer and drops into the cowl as a locating pin to ensure minimal movement during vibration...

Thom, Looks like the start of some hand fabbed windshield posts. Bet you will be very happy with the final result. Will the w/s parts be cad plated ? Intend to do a load of cad plated parts for my "A" Coupe.

The oversized windshield bases were formed to fit the body and use the original holes

Final windshield angle will be determined by how much of a rake will be allowed and have the posts still remain within the original base position... keeping in mind if this car is to represent a multi race type car the car would have kept to windshield on for land speed and street but would have been removed for track racing... style is a concern only if it doesn't interfer with function

The two main influences that I see in vintage race cars were carried over from avaiation and the cl***ics... a buddy has several 32 Lincolns so I went over to compare the windshieds... the 3 window coupe has a V'd windshield and the Berline has a factory chop but retains a flat windshied... the V is suttle which is the way I'm going on the roadster since that is all that is required to clear the steering wheel and the windshild rake is prominent on the Berline but not as serious as what we do today... I've decided the windshield rake will be as much as possible without changing the mounting holes or modifying the body in any way...

At this point the total frame hieght is 7.5" follwing the angle with approximately 6" of gl***... actual vertical hieght off the cowl will be less... current rake is about 27 degrees which may change
