I knew it could be done but I'd never seen done... the Y-block outlet didn't have the correct angle to the radiator so the cast iron neck had to be modified... there doesn't seem to many tasks that Carey hasn't had to perform over the years... but, I found this interesting... first the cuts were made, the mating surfaces were V'd for maximum fill, the part was pre heated, welding was started after the surfaces were near red hot, and after the piece was welded it was put in sand to cool slowly... OK - I went to the school for the abnormally chearfull and easily ammused... but I thought it was neat!

Thom, There is nothing that Carey can't do. I too am interested in his mod of the water neck. Beats fabricating a new piece. You ever get this one to SoCal, I want to go over it with a fine tooth comb. It is one bad ride !

It is another part that will go unoticed... The water neck looks like it has always been that way...

The transition of a work in progress to taking it to an event in its best unfinished state is justifying the time left until the deadline... detailing makes the presentation of the craftsmenship performed...

Thom, Your car is sure coming together. Really like the nerf bars and all the other details. Need to include some of these details on my "A" Modified. Car is going to "WOW" them at Detroit !

Thanks Dave... time will soon tell... you can see from the shot of Carey - he has the "whats next" look in his eyes and only three days left... another detail shot shot of the tail light housing (real vintage racecars had tail lights since everthing was flat towed in the day)... also, I forgot which direction the speedometer housing goes on so I'm putting that shot up to see if it jogs someone elses memory (mine in Detroit and I haven't left yet)... thanks for the support...

How many gallons is that tank? I may run one like it in my 27 roadster.

I don't know the capacity since I've never filled it... looking forward to that day... but, I would say 7-10 Gal... it was a NOS unit a friend gave me and I can't remember the year to use as a referance...

I'll post pixs later but we dropped it back down on the ground and I was trilled at the 6.5" ground clearance... every trick in the book was pulled to get a three point suspension system that low... I'm definately a happy camper... then a friend stopped by with a radiator cap too...

Well I would love to have it in LA Roadster Show too... the 33 was there in 91 but it would have to be running and painted... unless the employment situation changes or I sell the 33 the progress on the 27 will be slowing down a bit...

Fred, a 30+ year friend who helped me build the 33 dropped of the radiator cap today and I took a shot of him trying out the inprogress shifter... the last shot is a few years ago when I was dragging parts out of the garage to get an idea of how it would look... now you can see why I impressed with the stance

Time is about the only good thing about being laid off... even though a lot of the work is above my skill level it has been great to be working with some great craftsmen...

we had the body back on today - having the floor as part of the frame has worked out great... being able to remove the body with four bolts and a pitman arm has its advantages...

Today's feat... pretty shifty... and the request was for AUTOMOTIVE origins of the radiator cap - not what some very youg engineer was thinking when he designed it... and NO - it will not be painted!

The time and money comment hit home... time on my projects are usually counted by decades not years and people have always played a bigger part than money... and money - ya can't take it with you... memories will last forever

I've never been a car show guy... never even bothered to go to may indoor shows... once to the GNRS when it was by the Bay... Autorama last year and several times to the Cleveland Choppers Show because it is a great event that still reminds me of the early shows... but, I gotta admit I'm looking forward to Detroit Autorama and having the inprogress 27 beside the 33 that I've had for 37 years (done for 19)... many of parts on the 27 are spares or planned upgrades from the 33... but ever time I look at the cars they bring back so many fond memories of the folks that helped...

The shifter is a work of art! 39 Lincoln's ran (hidden) up the console along the dash then followed the steering column then the steering wheel... this was almost as complicated... it had to sweep back towards the passenger side below the center steer shaft and sweep up under the dash offset to the right of the wheel... in short a lot of bends, a special base, and Swan tapered end...

I'm beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel... my luck - probably a train...

Real racecars had tail lights... I'm wondering if they would have picked up bus unit at the yard?

Next question: Would they have ran a genorator for Lakes passes? and does anyone know of a 12V generator small the 57 Ford passenger car?

Ready to load... well almost - I missing the seat pan (I knew I shouldn't have decided to get all fancy with a seat pad) but it will be ready in the morning... so a day ahead of schedule... so in case I get caught up in the activity of finishing my Artist's Alley display and taking the 33 to Detroit tomorrow - I want to say with out a doubt that I couldn't have pulled this off without Carey & Rob... the fit and finish speaks for itself!
