I wish them well. They have the most experience and resources to do it right now. What a big challenge.

The company I work for, Cytec Engineered Materials, Inc., was a major supplier of materials for the construction of the Thrust vehicle that broke the sound barrier. Our facility in Wrexham Wales, UK supplied the carbon fibre and our plant in Havre de Grace, MD, US, supplied the adhesive films that bonded the materials. Hopefully, we will be involved in this new project.....

That might be "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai- Across the 8th Dimension" you're thinking about- good movie.

Man, that is seriously scary ****. I wish them well.

  13. awesome.
I remember way back in the day when I was a young whipper snapper, we would zip along at break neck speeds (140 or so) and the telephone poles would zip by like fence posts. I wonder what the world looks like at ground level doing 1,000 mph, prolly a streaked blur.

The current LSR is 763.035 set at Black Rock. The North American Eagle Project is working on an 800 mph car,but it's something of a hot-rod-no major corporate sponsors and I think they've been up to about 400 so far.Going for the record would require money and ideal racing surface conditions.

It's weird. Kind of like watching some new generation BMXer on the Dew Tour or X-games pull a quadruple tail-whip. Sure it's more and you "win" because of it... so congratulations I guess. I just think it lacks most of the style of a wheel driven vehicle.

All context I suppose. If I was reading about this on an all out LSR dedicated message board I could see it differently.

I wish them well too, but I'm a wheel driven LSR fan myself.

What is the wheel driven record now?

  19. Dig them rear wheel pants...

  20. while i can appreciate the effort and guts it takes to accomplish that, to me a rocket or jet powered car is just an airplane without wings.

I'm with Kevin on this. I don't knock him but seriously if you have the money you could go 1500 mph, you know what I mean. It's definatly not for this crowd.

Tell him to do it with out a computer then I will be impressed.

I'm glad I'm not alone. It has to have pistons for me to get excited.

I dunno...1000mph with your **** less than 12" off an unpaved surface seems pretty radical to me.

I like the piston cars too, but they're never going 1000mph. Or even break the sound barrier for that matter. I think the piston record stands around 417mph if I remember correctly. The Goldenrod went 409 and change in '65... not a lot of advancement in the upper end of this spectrum, lol.

  25. yes , it take balls to do.....but i really don't see the point of it. as i said before. it's an airplane without wings. the space shuttle uses a rocket to get into space , i believe escape velocity is around 18,000 MPH

drive it though the wheels and i would be excited

Do it in a school bus, now there is excitement.

  27. I find it hard to believe a bunch of "speed freaks" are saying this doesn't get them excited. Yeah we think along the "traditional" lines here, but come on...who wouldn't want to go for a ride in that or say an F16? Yeah it's a "rocket car" but damn these guys have the balls and budget to try something I bet all of us would if we could.

I agree that wheel driven is much more exciting and the Goldenrod was one of the coolest cars ever-imagine that in the 60's! On October 18th 2001, Don Vesco set the record for wheel driven cars with a two way average speed of 458.440mph for the flying mile. At Bonneville.
