Just curious, does anyone have any first hand stories, memories or photos of Langhorne Speedway or Langhorne Speed Shop? I grew up in that area, and always remembered the sign at McCafferty Ford to denote the historical site of the Langhorne Speedway. When I bought my first house it was right near Langhorne Speed Shop, but it closed down before I had a chance to ever stop in and visit. I also think that my late dad might have had some involvement and/or raced there, but unfortunately I’m not able to ask him. would love to hear any stories, or history about either of these two defunct ins***utions.
.....I see that you are a West Coaster now, so a visit may not work but, check out the website for the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing on the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds. It's a small museum packed full of history from the glory days of racing in Pennsylvania........Don.
I previously posted this video here (H.A.M.B.)... Langhorne Speedway had an 1/8 th mile dragstrip. langhorne speedway - YouTube
I am too young, but I have a story about my dad going in 1965 he was 16, a couple of older guys who had a racecar were talking in the spring about going as spectators. One of them volunteered to get the tickets and collected everyone's money keep in mind this was in the spring! So, the day comes it was cold, drizzly and rainy (which it continued to do for the whole trip!) but the four of them loaded into a 65 Ford Fairlane during the wee small hours and head form Grand Gorge NY to Langhorne PA (a 3 and a half hour trip) about an hour and a half into the trip they stopped for breakfast. As they were sitting there waiting for the food to come the man who volunteered to get the tickets started handing money out. Someone "Asked what's this?" The reply "I never did get the tickets." Thinking they had tickets for will call they were now late, however being that far into the trip they continued. By the time they got to the track the line for general admission stretched just about halfway home, by the time they got to the head of the line the race had started, it was several laps in by the time they got to their seats which were so low all they could see were the roofs of the car as they past!
