Hey Mark, I guess this and the below method of shooting lacquer @ 80lbs. makes an important point, that being that there are no hard/fast rules when it comes to painting- only those that experience has borne out, and those that ones willing to cover with labor/material costs when it doesn't work out.

porknbeaner; I always shot laquer at about 80 PSi something an old timer told me to do when I was still not an old timer and wondered what I needed from the late model gun. Wow! @ 80lbs. at the gun I'd think you'd be ''blowing away" the material! Excessive dry spray said:

The old fella is probably now dead he was my age when I was 14, said it made it lay out better. He always sprayed so heavy it was right at the ragged edge of sagging.

I never had the intestinal fortitude to spray as heavy as he did but his paint always looked wet even after it had gassed out. My thought is that it was easier to buff a little then spend hours sanding out a sag.
