    Good morning to all:

So I've got a problem. The fenders on my '40 Caddy coupe are absolute shit. There's far more bondo than sheet metal and whoever did the bondo didn't do it so well. I can't get photos right now because the card reader isn't cooperating, but I can tell you that they're pretty bad. I can't seem to find old metal fenders that are in good shape. Does anybody know of anybody in the NE area who fabricates big stuff like this? Or maybe even someone who sells this stuff new?

    Thanks.

Here's an options, but it's really time consuming...Take the money you'd spend on good fenders or having someone fab you some, and buy a panel bearter bag, a full set of tear drop hammers, maybe (MAYBE) and e-wheel kit, and finally, take one or two classes by Ron Covell.
Perhaps not practical, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
I've taken two Covell classes, and though I still haven't had the opportunity to use what I learned, what I came out of the class with was the attitude of "Hey, I could do a lot of that."
With your horrible fenders, there might be enough there that you could salvage some of them and fab the rest.

I know I cant see them, but I've seen VERY few fenders that were beyond saving when in the hands of a good metalman. Take the fenders, pull out the bondo, sandblast em, and you'll see what you've got, Then find a good bodyman or bodyshop that does restoration work, Ask around about who can do this. In my experience, when you start asking around , one name will surface way more than others. That's your guy. Then get out your wallet. Good work aint cheap- cheap work aint good.

There is a guy in Sturbridge MA. that has classes on metalshaping, his name is Wray Schelin. His phone number is 508-347-7749. You could take your fenders to a class, fix/repair them and still learn some metalshaping skills.

Lenny & the crew at Chop Shop Customs in Woburn can fix anything. They've worked miracles on the sins found under all the bondo on my 46.
