Hey all, Probably a tough one but I have come across a '22 T Roadster body that I have on very good authority that it was previously owned by Larry Shinoda in the early fifties. Would anyone have any photos or information regarding this car? Thanks, Greg
He was famous (a****st other things) for building a 24 roadster that won the first NHRA nationals with. I have pictures in an oldmag i'll try and dig up if you find no info.
Nothing yet Here is the info I have been told Turns out that it has quite an interesting Hot rod history.Built as a race car in the '50's(hence the fibrolite deck,YEP they had 'em in '55!) by Larry Shinoda (look HIM up,you'll be suprised!) and then turned back into a Vintage car in the '60's.Then re-bodied with a Coupe in the '80's,this body was set aside for 20 years till Edgar came across it.All of this info came from one of the Yamoura brothers who knocked around with Shinoda in the '40's and '50's and was THERE! He's in his late eighties now and still plays with cars!
Iwould love to see some pics of the car and a little more about it if it is avaliable. I know that Mr. shinoda ran a 32 three window in 53 and after that a model A roadster was unaware of the t would love some details
Laryy had a T in 55 i belive with an ardun in it i lost were i got the info at will try to track it down.
Hey guys, Just putting the call out for more info and pics on this or any of Shinoda's T roadsters. I have taken delivery of the body and would like to see what it may have looked like before working out which way to go with the car? Greg
Nothing on that car but here's a great link to the story of the man. http://www.pasadena.edu/about/history/alumni/shinoda/shinoda.cfm
If no pics or history can be found it will end up a late thirties - early forties era car like Iskys but with four banger power
ForEverFour, someone kind of local owns Shinoda's '32 coupe. He may know something about the T. He's a friend of a friend. I could check it out if you are still interested?
Isn't there a pic of Shinoda driving the T (or is an A) in the Tardel "How to" book? I'd also go thru all of Al Drake's books, I believe that Shinoda's T was in 1 of them.
Thats his A rdstr pick up. I have that book but not any of the Albert Drake books but thats a great lead - thanks. Hey mate that would be excellent. Any leads appreciated!
Hey guys, I have done some more digging at my end and it could be possible that it is the roadster owned by Don Zabel - Bruce Robinson on pages 52 and 144 of Don Montgomery's Hot Rods As they Were. It looks like it ran at the dry lakes and also the dirt track and was entered under Larry Shinoda's name at the Dry Lakes Thanks, Greg
Hi ForEverFour Just curious if you have been able to find out anything else on your roadster body? Is it the Robinson, Shinoda, Zabel body? Karl
The last I checked Larry Shinodas deuce was in the Three Dog Garage Museum in Boyertown Pa. That was about a year ago I saw it.
FWIW - Larry also had a great influence on the design of the bodywork of A J Watson's Indy roadsters.
