Wow, what loss to our community. I have delt with cancer, as many others here have. It is a evil disease that shows no mercy. I hope that there is someone that was close to Larry that will keep all of his treasures together so that generations to come will know of The True Legend, Larry Watson. R.I.P.

I got an e-mail from Kustom Klown, yesterday, so I knew this was coming. It doesn't make it any less painful, though. RIP, Larry. Thanks for the passion & the inspiration.
My thoughts & prayers are with Larry & his family.

Larry Watson will truly be missed, he was a trendsetter, he had style, and influenced so many Custom Painters. Guys like "Walt Prey" who is a legend himself in the Low Rider world, or anyone who applied candies and panel jobs in the early 70's to now owe Larry a great deal of respect. Larry paved the way to not have any boundries when it came to custom painting. Any panel job, candy job, or scallops you see will always have Larry's signiture style in them. Please post any Watson or Watson Style paint job on this thread to show your condolences to Larry.

It's fascinating to read all the nice comments (12 pages so far) of the people from around the world on this thread. It is awesome to see how fast news can travel in this time of our lives.

I have known Larry for over 50 years. As far as dear friends from my car show years, in 2001 I lost Ed Roth. We traveled together all over the U.S. with our vehicles. Now, I have lost Larry Watson, this man was the one person that gave life to my X-Sonic. Larry painted my car 6 times. Every time it went on tour, Larry would say "OK Ron strip your car as I have some new ideas".
I never asked what or why, I just striped the car and took it to Larry's shop. I always came out fantastic.

When you read the posts, please pay close attention to “Roger O’Dell’s post”. This man was Larry’s closest friend. He helped Larry through these last few months. Roger had purchased Larry’s fabulous t-Bird and placed it in Larry’s Museum. Roger also assisted in Larry’s soon to be published book on his life.

The world has just lost THE Master of Custom Paint and Design. I do not believe that anyone will ever be able to fill his shoes.

I have added a photo of just one of Larry’s paint jobs:

An Amazing Painter of Customs, and all he sprayed Lacquer and Seaweed on!! I was only a twinkle in my Fathers eyes when he was laying Outrageous paint on Cars in the late fifties and thereafter. I learned of him as a youth reading R&C and saying to myself WOW, that is truly Amazing!!!!!!!! How does he do it.?!!!! I stripe a bit ,but will never even call myself an Artist after seeing what Larry Watson can do with Paint...He Ruled at Painting and Creativity in Style...Thanks for the Inspiration,God Bless You, and My Prayers to the Family and close Friends....Kroooooz on

Definitely sad to hear. I called one time to order a t-shirt from Mr.Watson. Happened to be him that answered the phone. Had a nice conversation with him and I feel lucky to have only had that. Very nice man and a huge influence. RIP
