I'm glad I got to see it in person. No picture can do it justice when it is rumbling past you! Sorry I didn't get to chat more.

We saw you Friday afternoon in stop-and-go traffic on the I-35 service road. There's an endless line of quiet well behaved cars, and right in the middle there's this silver ball of aggression, bucking and snorting and shivering and popping like it's about to start biting people.

Congrats on winning the Kontinentals pick.

Dude, your coupe sounds so good. It's indescribeable. Obviously you are a man of many talents so........if you could just figure out a way to bottle that sound and mix it w/ the smell of race gas..................$$$$$$$$$$$:D

    Anytime Brian.

And it's definitely no comparison. You just can't quite feel the sound the way I did while I was recording.

(I'm harboring a not-so-secret crush on this car you know)

Purely Awsome ride. I have been watching your progress, it has been a dream. I noticed in the thread that you are using octane booster. I have a tremenous amount of experience in running super high compression motors and supercharged/turbo engines on the street and must tell you the octane boosters don't do much. What works the very best is to mex the appropriate amount of VP 109 (unleaded, racing fuel)in with premium gasoline. That way you can taylor the octane you need for your compression ratio. This will also result in amazing improvements in performance!!!!

Had to be one of the quickest picks in history.

Usally we get a list of about 5 or 6 cars from everyone, then we sit and compare notes.

This year everyone just said "Bass".

Everything you do is top notch Brian.

Yeah, we usually have to walk around in small groups a couple of times to narrow it down. Not this year. Everybody knew right away. The closest I heard was 2 guys listed you and the Lunar Lander as their top two. (Still can't believe it didn't get a pick)

The funny part was Shaun, Steve, Me and somebody else had all just voted for "Bass's Coupe" right away, when Gene walked up. He was like, "I really like that bare metal HEMI coupe". (doesn't read that funny, but you had to be there)

Anyhow, Jimmy White is still way more adorable. And you'd better get some big ass tires by October.

I couldn't help but to crawl underneath...
You need to put mirrors underneath.
Maybe even some foam around the tires and a velvet rope.

  10. Mere pictures -- and I took plenty -- don't do it justice. You have to hear the sinister hemi cackle from this sumbitch to understand how flat out EPIC it is.

Brian Bass, you are a ruler.

    Hi Glenn! Thanks for asking...

I haven't been able to spend much time at all on the coupe in the months since the Roundup. I have 2 full-blown customer car projects in the shop right now, as well as 2 bikes for customers and a bike project for myself. I work alone 99% of the time, so it's been hard to make time to work on my own car....I keep saying the Model A is like the proverbial "Cobbler's Shoes." :)

I do however plan on getting floorboards in the car and possibly doing a few of the body patch panels before the Kontinentals Day of the Drags next month. I'm also saving my pennies to be able to afford a pair of new M&H Racemaster 12.00-16 slicks, and a pair of the Wheel Vintiques Halibrand "small window" repops. I already have a pair of magnesium 16" Halibrands for the rear. With any luck, I'll have polished Hal's on all four corners for the drags next month.

I drive the car at least once a week, so I've been able to work out some of the little bugs. I had it on the highway today a couple times and it cruises at 90 mph like a new Cadillac. I've got a slight shimmy at 55 mph (goes away above that) that I'm fighting...balancing the front tires helped a bunch, but I think I may need to have them shaved as well. I've also developed a very slight detonation problem at high RPM that I 'm not sure if it's poor generator output causing the electronic ignition to misfire, or bad premium pump gas, or timing (or both). I plan on pulling the generator to have it tested and I plan to run race gas at the drags, so I'll know pretty quick which it is.

The car is still slated to be fully metal-finished, as well as chromed, upholstered, and painted shiny black in the future...it's just gonna take a little while to get it done. I've had this car in the works for 5 years or so now, so I guess a few more months shouldn't hurt. :)

Oh, and if anyone has any connections at M&H tire...let me know!

Here's what it still looks like right now. I'll post up some new pics when I get the Halibrands on it.

  15. Looks great Bass. Been following this thread (as I do all Model A build ups!). The Halibrands will be cool, but I'm digging the chrome steelies on black walls. I'm seriously thinking of going that direction when I build mine. With shiny paint I think it would really set off nicely. That deuce on the cover of TRJ #32 re-affirmed my thoughts, and so does your A.

Keep up the good work. We're looking forward to seeing it at the Roundup this year.
