Last Hemi Model A Coupe update for now....Made it to the Lonestar Roundup!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bass, Jan 27, 2006.

  1. Bass, that side profile of the cowl/A-pillar just FLOWWWWWS! I have seen the 32 header done on an A or two before, none looked as good as yours! Good job.

If he gave you a 10 second head start, you might have a chance, maybe! Looking good Bass, can't wait to see it in person in Austin, you'll make it.

  8. Nice work Brian, I think the ideas you are using will work out for a great result.

  9. you should talk to Metalshapes. He is doing just what you want todo on the rear of your car now on a 30-31 coupe. In the past he did a another coupe with the windshield treatment that you want todo.

Dude I can't wait for the round up!!

    That car rules.

Here is a pic of a survivor 29 coupe with a 32 windshield..... Obviously is 60's crazyness, and a different era from yours, but the windshield looks killer...

I would trade my house for this car.... I want it so bad...

  15. How did it work out with the 32 header in place?? Judging by the side profile shot with no header, it will look awesome. Could you please post a couple of shots with the finished header in place.

  17. What you showed me should work just fine. The one Bob wants looks OK from the front but the ribs ruin it for me. I can loan you MFS #3 if you want to see more of this one up close.

    Bass, that is rad.

I trust you on the '32 header, it's gonna look good. Get a '32 style insert as well, filling the top is less imaginative and won't look as good IMO. :)

Those wheels are perfect on the car. I love them.

Even if you can't drive it, you should get it to the Roundup, that's a build I gotta see. You're giving me ideas...

Hey Bass, just out of curiousity why do you want to keep the A canvas top if you're putting in a 32 header and windshield? I think it might look cool with a 32 top insert, fake or real, and metal finish the sides of the top where the old canvas used to go.

    It's looking amazing. Nice job.

Chad, that is exactly what I plan to do. You might have misread what I posted above? I dunno...

Anyway, I'm getting rid of the recessed line right above the quarter window...between the opening for the top and the drip rail. That's where the tack strip attached for the canvas. I will have an insert like a '32 5 window, but I haven't decided whether or not the top will be filled underneath the insert.

I've got a set of aluminum repop driprails, but I think I might just fab some steel ones instead.

And I'll post more pics when I get further along on the header panel.

    Thanks guys!

All hot rods should have a story....here's part of this one's story:

I think it was around April or May of 2001 when my Dad and I dug this body out of the bushes on a friend's dear lease.

It had been shot up pretty bad, and my Dad told me I should just leave it...it wasn't good enough to save. I persisted though, and the two of us managed to get it loaded in the back of the pick-up.

I counted the bullet holes after we got it home...there were 157.

Amazingly, after we got it off of the ground we found that the subrails were actually in decent shape. So with that as a basis, I started trying to find better panels to replace the really bad ones on the body. Now, years later, all that's left of the original body are the subrails and floor, the panel above the decklid, and the pieces above the doors. I also managed to find a Standard Coupe top...so I converted it over from its past life as a Special Coupe or "leatherback."

After I got the body, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I wanted to do with it. I was initially thinking about a channeled car with a flathead, but that plan changed pretty fast..

These rough drawings are from my sketchbook...2001:

    Another rough one from 01...

    Big changes planned out...

Another rough sketch from a little later...as I acquired parts, the idea evolved :

I was really kind of hesitant to post these, becuase they are really rough sketches straight out of my sketchbook...and the perspective is pretty far off in some of them. But I think it's interesting as I look back, to see how the car might have looked if I didn't find the parts that I've got now.

Here is the last one for now...a fairly recent ink sketch. This is closest to how the car will actually look.

Anyway...Thanks for the encouraging words. They help keep me going.

    BASS,

Awesome car. I just went through some of the other build up picks you have on your website....very cool project. Looking forward to the final design. I like the idea of filling in the top and using a fake insert.

    Love the look.

  30. Nice, Bass, you nailed the stance. Of all the concepts you developed in your sketches, I think you took the best path. But I am a sucker for Model A on deuce rails.
