And don't forget root the base color or sealer will change depth and shade. Can't pile up enuff to mimic the can, wouldn't work in practice anyways. Even painting over a color value you want will help especially on bright days. For a pure copperish look painting over a red oxide base will deepen it in the right direction. Black will brown it, gold will brass it up some. Plan on several color panels.

I'm old as dirt and not really up on the newer paint systems but Golds and copper colors were always difficult for me. They seemed very sensitive to pressure, speed, and distance from gun to panel. A slight change could give you a different color hues.

  6. I’d trust the guys advice that’s shot the color.

One advantage of having several colors from the same paint line laying around means ya get to play.
Leftover base coat to play with.
Each paint system has different level of pigment. The more economical paint lines tend to have less pigment. Or slightly more transparent than the more expensive line.
So if I was goofing around with this color I could do a test panel with several colors under it. For this color I’d probably try gold, dark red, bright red and maybe a bright silver.
Apply the color across the panel and see how it affects the shade.
We do the same for different color sealers as well.

My '33 wears what I believe is "Cinnamon Firemist" (1969 Caddy color) shot sometime before '75. Depending on the lighting, it can lean towards brown, or bronze. I don't know what it was shot over, sorry.

I know that @Roothawg wants to paint this in pieces, with a transparent color like this there is a possibility that it will be a bunch of different shades....

  11. If your going to paint it in pieces like Mark mentions then maybe look at something more modern as it would then be easier to match. The newer corvettes used whats called "Atomic Orange" I think it was offered around like 2006-2013.

Another would be "Sunset Orange" used on 2001/2002 Camaro/Firebirds. Would be an easier path to mix and match up since they are fairly new car colors.

That way I can see how everything affects it. All on one canvas.

I think this is what you are talking about.
    GM Sunburst II Orange -WA913L/56

    It pops for sure.
BMW has a paint code of C1X that’s pretty intriguing. Have to see if it’s a 3 stage though…..I bet it is.

There was a nice metallic copper colour used on 1973 Ford Mustangs, Medium Copper Ford Code M5144.

This is true, some off color can occur but to avoid it just make sure each panel is shot how it lives, I.E. hang a door vs on a sawhorse. Hood tops flat, sides hanging, etc. Just record your pressures, reduction, temp and settings and all will be fine.

That’s why I invested in a digital pressure gauge. Even if it never lines up with the tech sheets, at least it will be repeatable.

True. I always spray color with the same gun. Clear is a separate gun. Speed is usually coupled with my adhd, so it’s always the same…..too fast.
It’s always humid here, so that’s pretty consistent.

We were looking at using GM Sierra Gold on our '46 Tudor but felt that it wouldn't look as good as it does on a '57 Chevy because we don't have a white/cream coloured roof, large S/S side trims and no white wall tyres to help break it up.
A full Sierra Gold paint job bye itself looks a little drab in our personal view.

The ultimate plan is to scallop it with ivory with a gold or black outline.

    Hello,

In 1959-60 era, sitting next to us in the pits at Lion’s Dragstrip was initially a nice looking 1959 El Camino. The stock appearing on the outside reminded my brother and me of another big 335 hp 348 motor stock car for the S/S class. Everything we wanted in our 58 Impala… a 4 speed, 335 hp, etc.

But, after doing our stuff for the 58 Impala, the guys from the El Camino started up the motor and all eyes popped open to the sound of something more powerful than 335 horsepower 348 Chevy motor.

The 1959 bronze/white stock appearing was the look, but something under the hood was not stock.

Later that day, we were to find out that our pits neighbor was from Baker Automotive and the motor certainly was not stock. It was a modified, supercharged Cadillac motor in the place of the 348 Chevy motor. The guys were from Baker Automotive in So Cal.

The driver was extra special, as there were hand controls to make the El Camino race ready. His reaction at the start line seemed quicker than most. Yes, they raced with the El Camino tailgate down.

Pure power creates a taildragger look...

The tailgate down for smooth air flow and not a bug catcher tailgate effect, despite being on a ¼ mile run.

    upload_2022-12-29_4-40-7.png
The flow goes over the top and down into the bed, only to continue straight out of the flat rear tailgate surface.

The highly anticipated race between the racers in these trucks was exciting, but, for some reason, I got the start/staging, but the film did not come out.
