been meaning to post this one for weeks but i've just been so damn busy. what i have here is a tire rack i built that bolts to the wall of my garage with 1 1/2" lag bolts. i used to have a similar one made of 2x4s and screwed together but it fell apart after about a year. not cool cause it was loaded with wheels and tires at the time. this one however will last longer than the garage. i'll mostly let the pictures do the talking but i basicly have 4 6" pieces of angle iron for the "mounting feet". each one has a single hole driled straight through the face and then two (offset them from the front hole) going through the side. this holds it VERY securely to the 4x4 posts in my pole barn style garage. the same could be done with flat plate instead of angle if you had stud walls or your 4x4 walls where finished so the wall board was flush. you just would'nt have the side bolts and you'd want at least 2 bolts in each mounting foot (and make sure you hit a stud or post). after that it was just a matter of cutting a piece of angle iron for the horizontal support, weld it to one of the feet, then weld a diagonal brace at about a 45 degree angle up and weld another foot to it. make sure the will mount squarly to the wall. i clamped both feet to my welding table to build both end pieces and make sure it was all square. then i measured and marked the wall on both posts then C-clamped each end piece in place, drilled pilot holes and put in the lag bolts. i did this to both ends then measured and cut a piece of conduit (2" cause i had it layin around) the right length then i just welded it in place the distance i decided i wanted it from the wall. easy peasy. i did it all with stuff i had layin around the shop (except the lag bolts). you could use all angle iron or all square tube or a combination of what you have layin around. my diagonals are 1/2x1/2 tube i accidentaly bought one time when i needed 1x1 . you could even paint it if you wanted but i like bare metal so i will leave it NATURAL!!
that's cool and all,but the real problem here is that you got too many wheels and tires.i will help you out by taking those radirs and pie-crust slicks off your hands.hell,i'll even go as far as to pay half the shipping if they're 5x5" bolt pattern... -george
there 5-4 3/4 and NO you won't help me out by taking them off my hands those are for the "FnA"!!! i still have to throw the 18s from my S-10 up there for the winter.

NICE! I've got 32' of 4-high racks(mostly rim, tops are for mounted wheels) made of 4x4's and 2x6's right now. Yours looks like a good use for some of the extra angle iron I've got layin around so long now! I like the idea of yours being singular unit's rather than a whole rack, would be more handy with limited spaces, to help get some more of my wheels offa stacks!
Yorgatron, What you got that takes 5 x 5 stud pattern? My axles are off a British Leyland Sherpa van and have that pattern, otherwise it seems pretty rare. Paul
