Anyone know how to wire a late model GM altornator into a car that was originaly equiped with a generator/Voltage regulator? Right now I have one wire going from the + bat post to the Bat terminal on the back of the Alt, and one wire jumping from the Bat terminal of the Alt to the regulator terminal. Is this correct or do I have it screwed up? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is how mine is wired.

    GM internal regualted alt.

Wire from ign to plug in on side of alt, can't remember if it is 1 or 2

Other wire from plug in jumped to batt post on alt

10 ga, wire from starter to voltmeter or ammeter and out other side to Batt post on alt using 10 ga.

Is the wire off the ignition going to the plug that jumps off the Bat post? And if you're not wired into the ignition would it have a tendency to drain the battery when the car is off? I 've got it charging now but I've noticed it's getting power when the car is off. The back of the alt was hot to the touch when the motor was dead cold. Thanks again for your help.

    scrapyard,
another good source for electrical info(besides the veritable plethora of knowledge on the HAMB),is mad electrical(madelectrical.com).
some interesting tech there on 1 wire vs. 3 wire alternator setups.
    lots'o'diagrams to boot!
    hope this helps.
