Best thing I have seen in years....makes me laugh, when I was married at 20, my then wife was into all my muscle car junk, so she built herself a 70 W-30 442, not quite to the extent of your wifes car but it was a body off none the less. Of course after the divorce, I got out of the hobby, and due to lack of money at the time, I couldn't take on any good projects.

Recently I met a new female, and her love for hot rods and getting dirty has rekindled my love for the hobby, thus a barn fresh 51 chev were going to do.
Funny I spend more time helping her get grease out of her hair than helping her with the build ;)

tim, the spring is a model A spring, and the axle is a 40 ford with a 2-3" drop
    from a long time ago.

thanks for all the kind words, she reads this and it means alot to her.

back to work, for billet proof.

This is my favorite thread ever. Not only is it cool that this was built by her, but it's very cool that you documented it and shared it with us. very inspiring! Check your PM.

  6. Hey Man,

I dig the car, the build and the post regardless of who did it. The fact is was your wife only makes me greener with envy!

OT but was having a conversation with some female mates of mine and they were sooking and whinging saying how they couldnt get a guy, or find a nice one who was "passionate" about somehting in life. Maybe I should send them too the HAMB!

This post was originally posted during my extended "vacation" in Louisville so I missed it. I just wanted to say how cool of a car your girl built and how nice it was for you to teach her. Your post made it all seem to easy, if only that were true! Way to have patience and help her see her project through! Any pictures of it on the salt?

I didn't see this when it was first posted either. Very inspiring. Is she leaving it as-is or are there more plans for it?

  9. This WAS in the TECH Archive, but now it's gone. I'm glad I dug it up, it's one of the first things I saw when I joined the H.A.M.B.

wow, I am glad to see people still diggin this thing.

    to answer a few questions:

there are pics of it on the salt, but I am at work now, so
maybe I'll put some up later.

"Is she leaving it as-is or are there more plans for it?"
She is starting to winterize it. it has an aluminum top now
and she will be putting in glass. We don't have a garage so
whatever we build has to take a full winter, driving or not.
I drive mine year round, but she isn't sure if she will.
She plans on paint and interior next spring-summer, which will be done by her.

"This WAS in the TECH Archive, but now it's gone."
I never knew it was in there, but if so that is a big honor.
I put this up originally because I was proud of her and thought that alot of people would see they too could build a
hot rod. I also wanted to give back to the hamb, as I have
    learned alot on here myself.

we will let the powers that be decide.
    viva la hamb.

They are called intergrips, you can buy a pack of 4 from Eastwood for $29.99 part# 19016.

  12. Now that is inspiring! Glad I cought this post the second time around!

Now where do I find a woman like that?.....

  13. Is that the engine that came out of the F100 that I bought from you? Can I have it?
Very nice. Just goes to show- you don't need a big fancy shop and a ton of experience to build a fine ride. Determination, ingenuity, and a good coach are all that's needed.
Congratulations to both of you ( but mostly Mrs.).
    Nicely done.

It is really strange that this thread came back up now, 4 years later.

The girl who built this car and I broke up about 1 1/2 years after that build.

Kind of a bad deal, but sometime that is what happens in life. And in the end we are both happier for it.

But she JUST sold that sedan to some freinds of mine and it is NOW back in my driveway getting a once over so that the new owner, another woman, (Norma) can drive it down to LA where they live.

There have been some changes since that build, but it still looks the same from the outside.

I have to say that it is very fast and fun to drive. And I have no regrets helping her learn to build a hot rod, and she has inspired a lot of people a round here to do the same.

My current girlfriend (Marissa) is hoping to build her hot rod one day soon, and has already started collecting parts including a 331 Hemi and adapter, clutch and flywheel to cad lasalle tranny, which we also have.
So she is off to good start. When that build happens I will be sure to document it as well.

Until then she will keep driving her 56 ford customline.

Maybe before the sedan leaves my house I will take some current pictures, but there was not much progress after we split up.

The new owners will finish the car off, with interior and paint.

So you socal folks be on the look out for another girl driving around in this sedan.

    Cheers,
