Has anyone knowledge of fitting 49 to 54 type flathead ford hydraulic brakes to early v8 spindles. Perhaps re drilling the late drum to 5 on 5 1/2 pattern . On a cursory look it may be workable. Why , we have several free sets of these later spindles and brakes that are in good condition. yes I know we are creating possible issues but it food for thought.

I like the idea of using early spindles. It fits with my build, to use them. But I want to run '40s hydraulics. I have heard about widening the spindle back, to match the backing plates. I have not seen it done, and would like to.

I am not sure exactly what you mean by widening the spindle back. But when you hold up an early spindle to a 49 to 54 style it appears it may work.even if some machining and re.
Driling is required of the stud pattern.
