Not a barn find and not a very good picture... but located this 31 Model A coupe today and the asking price is $8500. All original except for the 35 Ford wheels and tires. Runs and drives. So what is your opinion on the price? IMO it is not a bargain, but not outrageous either.
Seems like a good price to me. For a solid, running, driving, Model A coupe that already has a great look! Mike
Look at what it would take to get a clapped out coupe to that level and then it looks like a bargain to me.
Buy it...that's a good price, IMO. From what I see, it may be in as good condition as most I see going for $12,000.
Kind of depends what you plans are for the car and how close this one is to that. If you're going to chunk alot of the stock parts, your money might be better spent on one that's not so complete.
An older resto tudor 30 sold at an estate auction in Quartzsite AZ last week for $6500, which was a damn good buy. I think it would be hard to find a nice running coupe most anywhere for $8500. Keep the body, sell the chassis and fenders, you have a nice start on a rod.
I think alot of people have payed more for less than whats their......I'd say buy it clean it up and flip it.... just my .02
I, like Mike, think that it is a very good deal, I have just a little more than that done to mine and was offered 14,000 for it but it has original paint. Still sounds very good to me and bangers are awesome! Put a reverse eye front leaf on that*****er and maybe take out a few, same with the rear and add some speed parts to the motor and you got a very nice car, very driveable and tons of fun.
That body sure looks nice. I think thats a good price considering how coupe body's have skyrocketed in the last 5-7 years.
It's definately a decent buy if you're looking for a stock Model A to cruise around. If you're buying it to blow apart, build a Rod and are only keeping the body, you'll have to figure out how much you'll recoup selling the chassis, fenders, etc. Do the calc's and ask yourself; If the body ended up costing you $5,000, is that a deal you can live with?
I paid 8,000 for the one I have, and it has a knock in the motor. I would not take less than 10 for the car lkie it is, but thats just me.
I agree with Hot Rods Ta Hell, but if you plan on building a late 30's, early 40's a, the frame and drivetrain are still in the mix. Maybe loose the fenders, add a head and an intake with a 97 and you got an instant early hot rod.
Dang, I had a '30 coupe back in the 70s and wish I still had it. If I had the money, you can bet I'd buy it, keep the '35 wheels, and drive it! $8500 is in the current Old Cars Price Guide range for a #3 '31 Ford coupe. I can see you and Corndog2 cruising around in it, for sure!
I bought a 30 coupe last year rot free body older resto, mechanically sound, I paid 8k I sold the running chassis with the fenders for 4k so know I'm into a completely solid body that is complete for what their getting for rotboxes, so I think the car is a good deal and u won't be nickled an dimed to death looking for odds and ends good luck with it
I asked her about this coupe and she said if I wanted to sell my 3W I could buy this one! That's why I call her the War Dept sometimes! Ha
In todays market I'd say ou have a "middle of the road" deal at that price. Depends on how much your going to keep and how much goes to the swap meet. Lots or worse deals out there and few better. The overall condition of the car rust wise would be the buy or pass on this one for me. Frank
Yep, I agree with the majority. I'd buy it in a minute and then plan on what to do with it. If for nothing else I would flip it for a profit and gain some points with the better half!
well i think if you were going to dress her up a bit and just run it like it is..than good deal. If you are looking for a project that your going to tear down and hot rod and customise..too dam much
The last original I did I paid $8500 for it, super body, motor apart, I thought I had to have it. I totally restored ground up including a complete motor rebuild. I sold it for 19K,what I totally had in it, I just wanted out from under it but I maybe could have gotten a little more. It did have a brand new interior in the boxes and I did everything myself I had 10.5K in parts no labor, this should give you an idea where you want to go.
