latest project from our shop..PICS

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by dooster-hotrods, May 27, 2004.

  1. Hi,
Thought Id post a pic of our latest. Well , kind of , we actually built this car 6 years ago and the guy who bought her took her home , pulled some bits off to add his own touch , then it sat there until I bought her back last month.
We have re instated the parts he removed , replaced the parts his mates borrowed and replaced with dud parts! , changed a couple of items , she actually now wears guide headlamps , since this was taken.
The car runs a Rover 3.5 (you call it a Buick 216) which is a cheap , easy engine for us Brits to use.
If anyone wants to see our other cars then visit our gallery on www.dooster.co.uk they arent all traditional cars Im afraid as to keep a Hot Rod shop going in the U.K. , you need to be flexible !

  19. Thanks guys , we are very proud of what we do here in the U.K. We may not use all the correct parts all the time but the general 'feel' of the car is still there.
You have to remember , we literally only had some of these cars in numbers still in the 100's , so parts are scarce , we heavily rely on imported parts and Ive seen the prices quadruple on these bits over the 15 years Ive been building trad Rods.
The cheap alternative , aint no more !!!

We can build a turn-key , road legal , drive home 32 Roadster for approx $10,000 and have consistently done so , the scalloped 3w came in under that and so did one of the black Roadsters.

We dont make much on turn keys but that isnt completely what its all about. Getting these cars out there and 'educating' people about 'no thrills' fun is just as important to us. Anyhow , each car is a rolling advert for us !
My at***ude is , when you are driving a fenderless Roadster it really doesnt matter if its a show winner , the grin factor is no less in a budget beater , often more so cos you aint ****ting yourself about your stainless catalogue bits getting all messed up !!.

The Roadster pickup left us half built and came back for finishing , the owner , Clive Haywood , did the wooden bed using 2 Deco wardrobe doors for the curved bed sides , its a nice job.

Towing the caravan behind a '32 ?....dunno , it was a mock up for our website and forthcoming calender !!! sorry.

Holy ****! I'll take one of each please! I've got to say you guys have one of the most unique aesthetics of hot rods I've ever seen. There not the usual sorta cliche "traditional" rods that a lot of people try to push as the "right" way to build a trad hot rod. I can't even think of a good way to describe your style..."European" maybe? They all sorta ride the line between doodle bug / traditional / mechanically elegant hotrod. The skinny street tires up front and the skinny military / farm tires out back just beg to be driven in the dirt. Very cool!
