looking good....and just for the ones questioning the strength of a sectioned frame. the trukin guys guys do it all the time to full size trucks.

Do you guys honestly think that a frame which is essentially a 3" x 2" x 3/16" box tube won't be strong enough?

    Run the numbers.

Assuming a 108" wheelbase, and a yield strength of 60ksi, a single 3"x2"x3/16" tube will support ~6,000 LBS.

There are two frame rails there, so it's got ~12,000 LB of capacity.

The thing isn't going to fail.

Since he's reduced the section height, it will be a little more twisty than it was before (unless he takes other measures that aren't shown yet, which could easily be done), but it will not fold up or otherwise fail.

Give the nay saying a rest, and let the man work.

If you want to talk about the strength any more, bring math. ;)

BTW, the horizontal sections (or flanges) of an I-Beam or Hat Channel are the load bearing portions of the member. The bottom one especially (which is why that hat channel has a 4" or 5" wide bottom flange instead of one that just barely connects the two sides).

Ever wonder why you can cut a bunch of holes in the vertical web of an I-Beam and not reduce it's load carrying capacity appreciably?

That's 'cause it's only function in life is to orient the two horizontal flanges relative to one another, to keep them separated when the load wants to stack them on top of one another, and to keep them flat.

You can't cut a bunch of holes in the flanges without severely weakening the member. That tells you which one is doing all the work.

The taller the section gets, the more leverage the lower flange has on the load, but make no mistake, it is still the lower flange that is doing most all the work.

Wild work. If you've got a spare deck lid, my 16 year old is converting a pile of a coupe back into a car. And your rotted stuff is gorgeous compared to our Michigan crap!

I think the frame on your '41 is the same design used on my '48. I think these ideas will work for my bomb too. It sure does need it. I have been wanting to put this thing down in the weeds for quite a while now. Great thread and great build. Keep the progress reports coming.

Yea, but, I don't like the look of dinky tires. I just want the fender to sit all around tall rubber and hug the ground while doing it. To me, that looks bad ass.
