Art & Inspiration Lazy parts.

  1. Anyone else have a bad habit of making a point to find and buy specific parts for a specific project only to all but forget about said parts almost immediately? Lol. Ever since I bought the 350 in my 53 I had the intention of swapping out the 882 smog heads for double hump heads.... didn't particularly care with double humps as long as cheapish and able to be cleaned up lol. Anyway about a year ago bought this set of 1964 461 heads for $100 and went as far as tearing them down and getting a quote from the machine shop. Since then they've sat in my storage unit. I'll mention them every so often because my engine needs valve seals anyway. I just never get around to it lol FB_IMG_1721924260153.jpg FB_IMG_1721924263243.jpg FB_IMG_1721924266506.jpg

I do this, but not with cars so much as OT hobbies. I find things I bought years ago I forgot all about sometimes.

Exactly the reason I keep confusion of the keys to the garage.
If the Missus needs in there, I gotta know.
And hey, sometimes you'll just see a bargain, that needs to be here.

usually much easier to buy than install. I buy some part and leave work bench and look at it next day still on bench. thought Leprechauns, or someone, should install for me - Ha!

Sometimes I will be working in my garage and need something from my basement and when I get to the basement I don't remember what I needed. I write it down now. Yeah getting old sucks but it's better than the alternative.

The joys of having several projects. I both forget I bought stuff and forget where it went. I'm cleaning up my storage in my garage so that I can keep stuff straight.

I need to start keeping a spreadsheet to keep it all straight.

I've been telling myself that I need to start getting serious about writing out an inventory list for what parts I have purchased for my 48's rebuild over the years. We have been cleaning out two closets in the house and part of that was to find a couple of things that I couldn't find including one of my pistols that I had hidden away a bit too well. I probably moved the back pack that I had put it in in it's locked case two or three times looking for it.

Most of the parts and accessories I buy these days I just leave in the house. My wife reminds me that I have them. I tell her I have to save them up for when I have a few days I can work in the garage uninterrupted. When she gets tired of reminding me, she will set up a few garage days in a row for me. I either get them installed, or I have to hide them in the garage... Unless its too cold, or too hot to work in the garage.

Its kind of a double edged sward. I get a couple days in the garage, but then I actually have to do something. She has gotten in the habit of quizzing me on how the parts install is going.

I remember where I put something right after I get back from buying another! On the brighter side, I end up with spares...

I just asked my contractor neighbor to keep me in mind the next time he does a tear-out on a kitchen. That just means I'll have a spot to start a new pile.
