I am going to french the headlights on my '47 Ford using the original bezels and for some reason I began to wonder if lead will adhere to the original stainless bezels. Will this work? or do I need to find some regular steel bezels (or use bondo on the on stainless rings). Thanks
The FASTIN flux is used to lead over aluminum and stainless, regular flux will not work. But Fastin isn't sold in the US, can't be shipped by air mail and since USPS doesn't do ground shipping any more "to serve you better" as they say ... You need somebody to smuggle it in the country.
As you said regular steel bezel will solve your leading problem. If you don't find any that suits you: build them.
Anyone know if the "imported" repop chrome plated steel '47-'48 headlight rings are anywhere close enough to fitting to be worthwhile stripping and using.
You're going to weld them to the fender anyway, right? So if the repop steel ones are close you should be able to make them work. Mick
See if you can find out what the goo in Fastin flux is- it usually says something like " active ingredient - phosphoric acid". I have gone out and bought the "active ingredient" and used it neat or watered down. Experiment on a s**** piece.
