Just got my new leaf springs and I want to put some kind of coating on them.

POR 15, Chassis black, Rustoleum, or what else will give a good protective finish that will last?

  2. Slip plate ,typically available from TSC, Graingers etc.. most farm dealerships.. Used a lot of the time to paint the inside surface of grain wagons to make them "slick" It' s a graphite base, dries to a hard surface. Can be bought in a brush on or spray bomb application. Really cool stuff, lots of the off road four by four guys use it too.

    Chris,

    That stuff looks cool.
I'd never heard of it before, but after doing some research it doesn't look like it lasts a long time or protects from rust very well. Looks like the 4x4 crowd really likes it.

You brush it on or spray it?
Is it the same Ruatoleum you can get at Home Depot?

we used a cheap enamel without hardener so it won't crack when the spring flexes , just try not to touch it for a few weeks as you fingerprints will show up

  7. Rustoleum is great for suspension parts,I've used rattle cans and brushed springs.

Undercoating spray paint works great also,,most auto parts stores carry it. HRP

Regular Rustoleum, brushed it on. Wears like iron, cheap to retouch. I've applied it in the winter in an unheated garage with no problems.

Polane T from Sherwin Williams Industrial is hard to beat. Flexible, chemical resistant, and tougher than any non-catalyzed paint.
