I have a 60 f100 that was an old farm truck. It has heavy duty suspension and rides like a tank. I'm wanting to lower it by removing some leaf springs. How many can I safely remove?
Removing leafs is not a very good way to lower the front. You can remove some from the back and get it to ride a bit softer, but it won't lower it much. On the rears, try removing every other leaf starting with the smallest.
mY 57 HAD THE HEAVY DUTY SUSP. ALSO. I REMOVED THE LOWER THREE SPRINGS IN FRONT, THE OVERLOADS AND THE LOWER 4 SPRINGS ON THE REAR. iT BROUGHT IT DOWN SOME AND SOFTENED THE RIDE.
Squirrel is correct here. Your front is not where it is going to be stiff because Ford knew how much weight was going to be on the front axle. I wouldn't loose more than 3 or 4 on the rear. If you want to drop it dearch both springs. If that is something that you cannot do yourself bring the spring packs to a spring shop it should cost you very much to have them dearched.
Back when I had my '60, I had a spring shop de-arch my front leaves and flip the rear axle above the springs. Cost me just a little over $500. This is how it sat after that ... Although it's worth mentioning: I had the standard-duty rear springs, with 7 leaves. If you pull 4 leaves out of your rear suspension you should wind up at about the same spring rate.
