My ol trusty ford o matic is leaking from the side where the shifter linkages come out of the body.
Is there any way to change those seals without taking the transmission out or havin the whole thing rebuilt?

I am afraid you will have to drop pan and I believe the valve body,it is an o'ring only accessible from inside

Ok thank you. If it's accesable from the pan, that's not too bad.

I did some searching on doing it years ago as mine does the same but reading what was involved I have learned to live with it.one fellow with same problem said he found leaving it down on fluid stopped it for him.as the only time it leaked was when it was full makes sense as it lowers the fluid to a point below the point where the shift lever is.it is pretty tricky to hold the pawl lever if you have a manual it will explain it.but as with any manual it helps if you can view things with theirs eyes as written words do not fully explain every detail.a video would probably very handy also.in my case also it only drips such a small amount that you only really notice if you crawl under and wipe it clean then check a while later it will be wet.only really notice it when it is parked over winter.if you do a search I think you will get more points of view on the way different people have done it.what ever you attempt I wish you luck I forgot to add I believe it was only a quart low he left it
