My 53 Flathead is leaking antifreeze from the water pump...a slow leak from the front of the pump where the shaft goes to the pulley. Anyone ever have this problem? Iam hoping it is just a seal that I can replace, as opposed to having to buy a new pump. Thanks

  2. The exact same thing is happening to me in my '48 F-1 (8BA flathead). A new generator was put on right around the time I got it, and the guy tightened the belt too much.

You can buy kits to replace all the seals (the old ones a carbon seals that can't take a lot of abuse) but considering the h***le of rebuilding it and the cost of the rebuild kit versus buying new ones, ya gotta stop and think.

I just bought two new ones for mine from the Hot Rod Company. Saved 5% and got free shipping vis a vis my alliance membership...
