I've got gear lube coming out of the pinion nut on my 32's rear (not the seal). I guess it's leaking down the splines. Any suggestions?

  2. I've got the same exact problem with my 8" Ford.

  3. You can try taking the nut off, clean it and the splines real good, then re-install with sealer on the splines and threads. Would probably be good to drain the gear oil so there is no fluid pressure on the sealing surfaces while it is curing.

He's right, the pinion nut has some sealer on the back side when its new, but I always put some silicone on the splines and threads when installing the nut.

  5. Turn up the air to your impact gun and wham it on tighter, the crush washer will tighten it all up .......:D

Use liquid teflon sealer -- its like teflon tape but comes in a tube -- this stuff will seal anything and its what they use on factory stuff nowadays. I use it on all the diffs I rebuild at work and it works great. Advantage over silicone is that it is a lot easier to clean up. I have gotten it from the local autoparts store but your GM dealer will have it as well.
