For normal street use (not racing) the column shift should work fine if you replace worn bushings and repair worn linkage. This requires a small amount of welding or brazing to build up worn areas, then file them back to stock shape. If everything is 'factory new' it will shift easily and accurately. But, not quite as fast as a floor shift if you want to 'bang' the shifts (not recommended for long life).

I think that engine/trans combo should work great. You should hardly have to shift gears at all with a high torque motor like that.

One suggestion, you might consider changing the rear axle gears to a higher (lower numerical) set in the interest of smoother highway running and better mileage. If you do that, plus have the rear springs reconditioned taking out a few leaves, and get a set of new shock absorbers you won't need to change the rear axle or suspension.

.. Just don't expect to speed-shift it... LOL.

One more note. You have the short tailshaft truck trans, if your truck is a long bed, make sure the tailshaft bushing is good, the yoke isn't worn, and your driveshaft is well balanced. Ford used a two-piece driveshaft on the long beds with the short tailshaft to reduce stress on the tailshaft....
