Hard to believe that there is 5 pages and nobody said anything about the Ozzie & Harriet TV show titled "The Road Race" where Dave and Ricky race a Hot Rod and their Dad drives a Model T.
Anybody remember a 3 Stooges where they are in the woods (maybe camping or hunting) and they are driving around in what I think was a 33-34 ford 4 dr convert?
That episode of 'The Life of Riley' actually had Riley and his son Junior looking at a pale yellow, chopped and channelled 34 3W with a Chrysler Hemi w/ 4 2's, and a Deuce shell. It was later on the cover of Hot Rod with them looking at it.
Anybody remember the episode of Happy days where The Fonze got a 55 chevy??? (It was actualy a 54) Like no one would notice the diffrence???
Speaking of watching too much TV and remembering shows from years ago, does anybody remember the show "Arnie" starring Herschel Bernardi? I remember one episode where Arnie has his boss's car and it inadvertently gets crushed into a cube and left in the driveway. It was a brass era car of some sort. Don't ask how I remember that show, the star, or the car. What kind of car was it? Am I the only one that remembers that? Help my flickering brain cells out here fellas.
That was a 1933 Phaeton standard. Very rare car. It is currently for sale by the guy who bought it from the studio in '71. It was also used in the "Ma and Pa Kettle at the Fair" movie as well as "Dennis the Menace".
Here an old picture of an auto show program from 1961. Photo is from the book Hot Rod Memorabilla& Collectibles
That hoodlum hot rodder on the Lassie episode was Tommy Ivo. He also was in episodes of Father Knows Best, Donna Reed Show, and Leave it to Beaver.
Yes, I remember that episode of "Happy Days"that was either before or soon there after when the show "jumped the shark". In fact "Happy Days " with Fonzie jumping his motorcycle over the pool of sharks is where that phrase comes from. I had read somewhere that Lumpy's 40 Ford convert is still around. Frank Bank /Lumpy has tried to buy it and the guy won't sell.
Back in the early-mid 60s Red Skelton was doing a Freddy-the-Freeloader skit. The stage was set up to look like where he lived in the junkyard. The main prop was a junked 52-54 glasstop crown vic. Back then that was the first one I ever saw of the early body, besides the 55/56...........and it was rotfree
What show showed some young hot rodders painting a 30's car and it left a silouette on the side of a building they painted it by? My bro in law sent a copy of his book www.fortycars.com to Jay Leno and Jay called him - he's all stoked about that.
You guys forgot the best part of watching the submarine races, when you finally got the girl to make the "periscope" go up
Talk about bringing an old thread back from the dead, but I just saw the 'Leave it to Beaver' on Netflix last night where Wally and Eddie chain the rear end of Lumpy's '40 Ford to a tree and he drives off pulling it out. Good stuff. I also noticed the shaved door handles and it did look lowered.
Too good to pass up posting... . Leave It To Beaver Sweatshirt Monsters Season 5, Episode 35 Airdate: 06/02/1962 .
one other thread on the HAMB lists a great Ozzie and Harriet episode where Ozzie challenges Ricky to a race. Model T vs "modern" hot rod.
Actually, Fonzie was water skiing when he jumped the shark. --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark
