Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hellerlj, Jun 30, 2012.

  1. put the stock top back on it (hopefully it was braced propperly before it was cut)

  2. chopped convertible would be awesome.

wow,,,alot of people here like carson tops....?

personally, i'd take the extra hard top you found, and put that back on... ..slice it down 4.5 in the front and 6 in the back ,swap out the back lite for say a 49-52 rear section...and keep on keepin on.....

  4. i also vote for carson top

Yeah, and this is the reason.....I realize this car is a ford, But it is tuff to beat a carson top on a custom IMO anyhow.

Look at what N.Z.Rodder had to say !!! Back in the mid 60's (Atlanta, Ga.) a father and son team (they owned a body shop) did a 55 Bel-Air H'top. The car was a hit with top on or top off. It was featured in World of Wheels Shows and Car Craft (little book). If I am not mistaken your vent and side windows are the same in the convertible of the same year................. Jeff

kind of partial to the chopped/carson top myself. been working on this one now for a while...building a completely new removable top now....not using conduit as seen in one of the earlier shots....that one is in the scrap pile!!

What he said. I've done several convert conversions and liked them all. My '59 ' T'Bird has NEVER had the removable original hardtop on. Get some convert top irons and w/s frame and do it as a "real" convert.
