I received orders the other day that put me back in an infantry unit and I will be going to Afghanistan in a little more than a month. I drained the fuel tank about a month ago, will it be okay without anything in it or will that cause it to rust while I'm gone? It has oil, trany fluid and coolant do I need to worry about anything else?
Good luck, 54HotRod. Run the carburetor dry or take it off and dump the fuel out. Might be okay until you get back, might not. Depends on how long you're gonna be gone. Thank God for the internet. You can keep in touch with us from the sandbox. Please do, okay...? And, 2X on the gra***ude. Thank you for your service to our country. It is men like you who keep us free...
yes thank you for your service and may god look over you and everyone who has helped keep this country free
If you are going to Sangin, I know a good kid stationed there. Be safe, come back, then fill up the tank and cruise.
Be safe and keep in touch hopefully they will finally end this and our men and women can come home, thanks for your service!
Yes, empty the carb. Damned ethanol will probably deteriorate and clog the carb. Thanks for your service. TC Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club '69
Thank you for your service,,we can't say it enough to be fortunate in having men like you putting themselves in harms way everyday to protect our freedom & way of life. Stay safe. HRP
Thanks for the information, I will definitely make sure all the fuel is out of the carb. If I have the ability to use the internet, I will post and let you guys know how things are going. We should be in the Helmend Province where Sangin is located from what I know, but there are no solid details that I can really discuss until we are there. I'm sure that most of you guys know how that operational security goes. Plus I will still be in the states for a few more weeks so I will continue to post until I leave.

Well, tonight is the final night here. I have been so busy lately that there has been no progress on my Ford in the past two months, and she will sit for several more. If we have internet where I'm going maybe I can post every once in while.
Drop off your car at my shop, I'll take loving care of it for your return..... That's the least I can do for what you do for us!
Well, its already a different war than Iraq, I never imagined that I would be connected to a wireless connection on any base we were going to be at. Thanks to everyone for the good luck wishes. Hopefully this will only last the short time they are saying.
