Cactus the truck is a customers that fell off a jack, and I have been straightening out the screwups. On the lights I did not replace the fixtures, I just removed the balasts from them and did a quick rewire. The lights were about 10.00 each. cost about 240.00 to do it, but I am so much less in the dark. Hell my welding skills might come back.
I have been buying the 4 foot complete units at Costco when they have them on sale for about 20.00. Sent from my VS988 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
OK,I'm confused,I looked at the site you posted, are these bulbs used with the old florescent fixture? HRP
They are, but you have to re-wire the "tombstones", or replace one/cut the the wires off the other and disconnect and /or remove the ballast
They also make some that just replace the tubes, but I can't see using that type with a ballast even though they are easier to install
I found that one led bulb was equal to two flourescent bulbs. And get the kind that don't need the ballast. Only one end of the bulb gets electricity, the other end is just to hold the bulb in the fixture.
Yes. Same fixture. Disconnect the ballast and byp***. Install bulbs. That saves you coin. Sent from my SM-G900T using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thank you, that would be something I can do,I was thinking I would have to take the florescent light fixtures down and put up new fixtures. Eliminating the ballast and replacing bulbs will be lot less expensive. HRP
I ordered a case of 22 4 foot LED bulbs from Amazon. One bulb was broken from shipping. So I called them to replace that one bulb. They said they would refund the 160.00 I paid for the case if I ordered another case. So I happily did plus a single bulb to replace the broken one. Now my shop and my garage are really bright! I just ordered some of the ones Gimpy listed.....figured that project has been kicked around long enough.....no overhead lights in the kitchen now for a couple of years! Prices have come down since I first looked into them too
Best thing I've done in my shop in 20 yrs., I went from two smoked balist an half a dozen dead bulbs, To unbelievable light, $175.00 (20 bulbs)shipped off that "E" site, Everyone of my "old" buddy's an young have changed out... Best thing You can do!!! I left those damn balist Rite there, an rewired existing with existing wire in light fyi...Need white at one end, black at other.. mine were one pin at each end
I got my 4 ft led tubes from Amazon. 6 tubes for about $6 each. After removing the ballasts from my fluorescent fixtures, I rearranged the wiring to a simple 2 wire configuration. Instructions on Youtube. Amazing brightness, no hum.
I replaced the lights in my garage with these LED Feit brand fixtures from Costco, made a huge difference.
But.... I did leave a fluorescent in my "office" area for ambiance .. h-hee, That would have been the 21 one I needed, but.. keeping with tradition..
Hollywood you better get something to eat your looking a bit skinny over there beside the Hotrod......Now if you hadn't of put the new lighting in I might not have noticed...
Hey, guys! Check with your local power company about any energy rebates that could offset the initial cost of those LED lamps. Might just make it REAL attractive to get it done. Roger
Danny, If your old fixtures used T-8 bulbs, Home Depot has Phillips 4ft. bulbs that simply install with the original ballast. So easy a caveman can do it, just replace the bulbs. Instant on and no noise even in cold weather. Now it's like a tanning spa in there! Cheaper by the case.
I put 15 of the Costco ones downstairs in my garage, and 5 in the attic storage area. Garage is 24 by 30 so it is bright, especially with the semi gloss white walls/ white ceiling. I can finally see what I am doing wrong.
These are the lights laying on the lift by my tires ! There about 1 1/2" wide and about 1 3/4" tall Replaced the old fixtures with this whole unit ! $25.00 each They can be ****ed together to run a long line of them .As in my last post
I recently bought just one to see if there was much difference. Wow, that one puts out more than the other three next to it. I am sold, but this one was expensive at 50 bucks. So I need to check out other sources.
