My fluorescent lighting in my 30’ x 40’ pole barn is awful and old . I want to know what you guys think what is a good size lumen to go with .One electrician said to go with 3 , 7500 lumen fixtures the length of each side a for a total of 6 ,8ft fixtures.Another electrician recommend 5000 lumen fixtures going across the barn but with a total of 8 or 9 fixtures.I want to be bright but not to bright. My present lighting only lights up about 25% of the barn.I just want to know what is good .Thanks for any advice

I used LED replacement bulbs in my 4 ft. Florescent fixtures. This is the type that bypasses the ballast. My 13 year old grandson disassembled, rewired and reassembled the fixtures while I removed pulled them down and put them back up. He got his part down to under 5 minutes. I wasn't quite that fast.

The bulbs we used are 2340 lumen, 18 watts. I used the clear covers but would probably use the frosted lenses if I did it over.

@ $10/bulb it isn't cheap, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Edison bulbs are traditional.

I did like GearheadsQCE did. Replaced the bulbs with LED(purchased bulk on Amazon IIRC) and rewired the existing housings to bypass the ballasts. Super easy to do and what a difference! I found all sorts of stuff I didn't know I still had!

My garage is 30' x 30'. The attached shop bay is 15' x 25'. I bought 12, four foot, 5000 lumens fixtures on sale to light up my life while in the garage. There is four fixtures per bay. At the entrance to the garage, I wired half the lights on one switch and the others on another. In the shop space there is four fixtures that I, once again, have two switches. Each one for two fixtures. I rarely have all the fixtures lit at once. I have plenty of light. But when I do light it up in there, I can count the pimples on a flies' ass from twenty feet. It's like working in the driveway on a sunny day, but indoors. Make sure that you hang some fixtures so that you get direct lighting into your engine bay under an open hood. Helps alot.

Wow. I have only 4 dual housings in my two car garage. I'll bet the neighbors think you house the Ark of the Covenant!

I really never turn them all on at once. When I do, it is somewhat biblical.
