I want to use led lights for turn indicators on my 28'ford hotrod, but they won't flash. Do I need to add a resistor or what? Thanks, ace43
They probably don't draw enough current to cause the flasher can to cycle. You'll probably have to find circuitry that has a timed pulse to the LED. I had a friend who built a 3-axle 30 foot long trailer using all LEDs. The total amp draw at the hitch plug was 1 amp.
Have you got LED front and rear? If you can run a bulb at the front and use the LED style brake lights you will be away .
Use an electronic flasher from united pacific.....it has a ground wire you must hook up...this will cure the issue you are having
I've run into this issue also with LED lights. No Luck with United Pacific,.can't seem to find flashers on their websight. Do you have to run 2 separate flashers when you use several LED Bulbs. .A necessity now-a -days in a rod, a 3rd LED brakelight in the back window. People are not attentive when they drive anymore.I want to blind them when I step on the brake pedal....... Gene
If the lights flash on the corners of the car using a standard flasher, the LED's should also flash if wired into the mix. Where you have problems is with all LEDs and the old style by-metal flash. This type of flasher unit needs to see a pretty good load to heat up inside and turn it self on and off and LED's just pull enough juice to make them work. Adding a few LED's will not alter the original system or keep it from working. Check here for LED and resister information. http://www.petervis.com/electronics/led/led-resistor-calculator.html You may simply have them wired backwards, as they only work one way. Joe
You can read the part number on this one listed on Amazon and track it down locally if you want to go to the effort. http://www.amazon.com/United-Pacifi...-1&keywords=united+pacific+electronic+flasher
I use them all the time for dash lights. You just have to buy the ones with a resister built in to one of the lead wires and no LED flasher needed. Like these and come in several color choices. http://www.sears.com/boesch-built-q...21666&cpncode=41-23553050-2&redirectType=SRDT
I have been selling LED tail lights and front parking lights for 56 to 67 Corvettes for years. Typically if you just put in tail lights and use incandescent parking lights a electronic flasher is not needed. But some times it is due to low resistance bulbs. With front and rear LED's the flasher is required or you can put load resistors in the circuit, not recommended because they can get real hot. I like United Pacific's flasher since it uses a dedicated ground wire. Get PN 90652 which comes with a polarity reverser which is needed in some cases. Sometimes LED lights can screw up some electronics such as cruise control. Cheapest price is on Ebay.
united pacific part#90650 two terminal.....90651 for three terminal styles.......i use them in all led applications and they always work fine....
