    Hi Fellas..

Steve Kennard here. Im a 44 yr old gearhead grew up on a my dads carlot in Ypsilanti Michigan. That doesnt make me smart or special [IMG]..spent most of my life as a machinist, fabricator, painter, an car nut. However, I was a nurse once.. [IMG] Anyway, I have been disabled from an exploaded back for ten years now. I can hobble my way around the shop and have finally gotten the courage to try a "rat" type build up. Being on disability (which I thank god and country for) this will be a very low budget build.the frame, body and suspension will all be handbuilt. Im leaning toward a smallblock auto set up. I can no longer drive a clutch..Engine will be ford or GM this depends again on cost and availability. The rear will be a four link using a 9" ford. Im lookin for dependability and fun.
Now my only trepidation is how will I title, register, and of course insure a "fun" rod. If anyone has done this in Nevada or has any tips as how to get a legal Homebuilt on the road. I would greatly appreciate the advice of the gang. The car style have in mind will be a version of a T-bucket or track type roadster. I may lean toward a 32 highboy look as well..The four link may prove to be a pipe dream. a leaf spring rear set up may be the way to go if I clone a highboy. Im in the design phase and dont mind wasting a ton of paper prior to welding and fabing...I MAY BE PARANOID. but I think the legal end of puttin the car on the road would be a good place to start..hate to build something and not be able to enjoy it..thanks again...Im new here and feel like a kid in a candy store....great site..

the best thing to do is to call the local or state motor vehicle department and ask what the legal needs are as far as what paperwork is needed. or check the state statutes on line or at the local library.

best to check locally since each state has their own requirements.

oh yeah, welcome to the H.A.M.B.

could just buy a title for whatever you end up building and then proced to register it... there are alot of options but many of them are dependant on were your at. im sure some one will speak up from the area and tell you what direction you need to take.

welcome and good luck on the build [IMG]

  4. Steve,

I'm going to buy a title and stamp my frame rail with that number. Seems to be the easiest way to do it. I have some info from the DMV on other ways but they seem too complicated, i'll get it together and email you with it.

    Hey thanks guys...

I to wondered about buyin an old title and doing the number stamp. The info you gave gives me several ways to research. I appreciate all the input for sure. I new in the vegas area and am truly impressed at the supply of nice iron. I saw Michigan run out a couple decades ago. I also lived in florida and louisiana...Im believing this area could very well be.."the last frontier". Like all of you I hate the thought of not having a " rod " to cruise. Im very impressed with all the postings I've read. I think my crazy ol brain may have found a home to hang with like minds..I've been told Im a dying breed...I refuse to believe that crap..tho, I have to admit being surrounded by Coffee can muffled Hondas on the highway is begining to make me feel a bit of mortality...HA screw that....This ol dude is going down with a flamed eye ball and a stiff middle finger for the "we need ta crush em folks".

Theres an ass for every seat...whats yours in ?
