My friend Shug owns and built this 1932 Ford Roadster with a Desoto Hemi.

    Hello,

One of our favorite places to stay is the Kimpton Resort called “The Goodland.” It is located in Goleta, CA. It has/had many reasons for us staying there at any time in our history. Back in 1960-63, we surfed in Goleta shore line surf spots. The surf breaks were good in that no one except for some random college kids were out, due to not being able to see the actual break. Cold, but great surfing with friends.

Over the years, my wife and I have traveled up/down the coast and stopped at a Holiday Inn back in 1967 due to unforeseen terrible weather. So, we ended up safe and sound. But, many years later, we discovered that the resort hotel changed hands and is/was now called the Kimpton Goodland Resort. It is changed from the funky Holiday Inn décor. It has been upgraded to reflect a 1960’s feel of a nice beach/coastal lifestyle.

We have stayed there several times and each time is in the same upstairs room we had back in 1967, when it was a Holiday Inn. The décor fit our style as each room had a record player, wood accents on the walls and gave us the impression of a simple, yet clean resort. We have stayed there on every trip going to the Northern coastal road trips and coming home from our long Westcoast touring road trips from So Cal to Canada.

My favorite thing is to walk around the Ford woody wagon always sitting outside in the entry driveway. Behind it is a silver aluminum Airstream travel trailer, always open for a nice quiet sitting area for reading or writing. It was as if we were in a resort, camping in a trailer, but had access to our whole resort motel amenities.

During the time my brother’s family lived there in Santa Barbara, the place was a Holiday Inn. Now, the family is still there in a different area of Santa Barbara and the motel is a part of the Kimpton Resort group of cool places to stay. YRMV

    Hello,

In a local surf town, surf notoriety is a fast rise in the ranks if you stay with the basic skills, get the moves down pat, then things will happen. In hot rod identifying, if one pays attention to the surrounding traffic, sometimes, unusual old hot rod cars and trucks pop up when least expected.

Having seen this old yellow/blue panel truck in varying stages, it was nice to see it pop up in my rear view mirror. A digital camera was used as the set up, if already in the “on” position is to hold it up, point it into the mirror and it automatically adjusts to the focus for a fairly clear moving shot.

But, one must take into account, the traffic coming and going. Even at slow speeds and fast digital cameras, it is a “tingling awareness” moment when the shutter ****on is pushed.

Note: In talking to the owner of the local shop, he told me that the yellow/blue panel van is one of 4 in a build stage across the USA. It is rare and for this Westcoast version, nicely done. YRMV
