I have always liked the woody to sedan delivery conversion on this one. There are dress up details that I would not have done... but it proofs it can look very nice. So much in fact that I built a 1/25 scale model based on it... many years ago.

Sorry about the poor photos of the real car... all I have been able to find.

And this is the model I based on it.
Of coarse this one was based on a sedan model with its lower top profile, which I think suits the custom version much better.

I was young (15-16) when I built this one.. and the 59 Caddy taillights is something I would now never consider using on a 49-51 Merc... oh well.

Here are two woody's that where "customized" although both I do not consider to be a custom car.
The chop on them where the side windows where chopped the heavy roof sectioned and the windshield left at stock height but raised into the top is very nicely done. But now they both need to get a real hair cut.

Click on the photo to see the Custom Rodder feature.

I like the gold one much better.. but still no custom car to me. But it shows that will good planning these could make very nice custom cars. One key point will be sectioning the heavy metal roof over the windshield so that the top comes more in balance with the rest of the car.

Here is a stock bodied woody

And while searching for these I came across this custom one based on a four door...
Not saying I like it.. just showing it.

Woodies should be restored and not modified in any way.

I think you're on the wrong site. Try this one www.fordbarn.com

Everything should be modified. Stock is boring.

  16. If I were starting with a good, restorable car, I'd probably do just that (just because they're pretty rare), but if shat you've got is in need of a lot of work, why the heck not go the custom route?

One of my aunts had a Merc woodie when I was a kid back in the '50s and I'd love to have that car sitting in my garage today.

Rik, That SD should be built in real life. GAWD!. I think the gold one is a custom. After all. its chopped and had the usual done to the front. Imagine if the roof was not so high and it had caddys and skirts.

Sarcasm Toner and Crash, before you get in a big ole twist. I have a woodie, and it is very far from stock. OK, back to dinner.
