I am thinking of going more of a mild custom on this one. I want to get a Fulton visor and plan to make a nice custom floater for the grille opening.

Have you looked at the price of that book!!! WTF! 160 pages for $80 to >$200. It better have a happy ending with it. And I don't mean the fairy tale kind!

Oh and Lockwood, I'm jealous of you. I have a shoebox woodie of the 49 variety. the only car I think I like more is the Merc version! I'm subscribed for sure.

I had this visor given to me from my friend they same guy I got this Merc from. So I thought I would temporarily tape it to the car and see how it would look with a visor....lol

    looks good..

FYI.. I have the woodworking book. I dont think it will be of a great deal of ***istance with this project as theres not alot of discussion about the bending process (as I recall)

Thanks Jeff I have some ideas going on in my head for wood and also for the heads up on the doors. The bad thing is they are for a Ford. But if you ever see or know of the rear panels being available I am under the impression they are the same for both Mercs and Fords.

Ok I have been stalled on the woody for a while.............mainly because of the cost of the wood kit.......so I have been thinking about using this new process I have been toying with. Besides I got a nice Fulton visor coming and a got a new grille for her so I believe it deserves some much needed attention.

  18. IN MY OPINION-A woodie should never be a Kustom/Sled.....
Also if A stock one =IS= chopped [which BTW they need chopped].....The top of their windshield needs raised to eliminate that horrible "Ambulance" looking cap above the W/S gl***....

I also like the visors on the shoebox woodies. I sectioned a Fulton a little bit to bring it slightly closer to the shape of the roof on my 51 Ford. And added a few louvers.

[Hey!! That's my car in the early 80's~! $300.00 & I drove it home!! QUOTE=Rikster;5477006]I have always liked the woody to sedan delivery conversion on this one. There are dress up details that I would not have done... but it proofs it can look very nice. So much in fact that I built a 1/25 scale model based on it... many years ago.

Sorry about the poor photos of the real car... all I have been able to find.

And this is the model I based on it.
Of co**** this one was based on a sedan model with its lower top profile, which I think suits the custom version much better.

I was young (15-16) when I built this one.. and the 59 Caddy taillights is something I would now never consider using on a 49-51 Merc... oh well.
