CornCob, now you've got me confuzzed. Like Lloyd I had had a hard time finding plain steelies, but a fine gentleman here on the HAMB fixed me up with 15" stock wheels from his Nomad. Granted, the center hole is slightly larger than the disc hubs, but they fit the calipers fine. Also they don't have safety beads for tubeless radials. The center hole, if it becomes an issue can be fixed by turning up thin sleeves for the hubs. But if hotrodding was 100% risk-free, it wouldn't be hotrodding... 20240127_151327.jpg 20240127_151303.jpg

Guess that should read "up or down from the same street"

Yes, a BIG family. All Hot Rodders.

The usual clearance problem with discs is that the outside face of the caliper hits the wheel centre.

    Yep.
The older the wheels are most likely will not fit a disc brake set up as the inside wheel flange causes clearance issues with the disc brake caliper.

It comes down the trial and error fit.

I know this has nothing to do with Lloyd’s thread, but as a kid my parents would drive buy a hillside and the cattle would be chilling and eating along the hill. I asked my dad how they could do that.
He said “two legs are longer than the other two”.
I asked him what happens when they turn around?
He quickly said “they fall over”

    Thanks for that memory! :)

    I’m 10 miles south of 30. I guess I’m a redneck corn boy too.

  10. Nice, James! So what's going in it? 409? BBC?

Yep, U.S. 30 runs right through town here. The Maryland HAMB has a fall cruise starting in the center of this map.

  12. We love that town. Always stay at the Gettysburg Campground off 116. Always came down for Bike Week. The heat of that time of the year wore me down to where I dont go anymore. Wish they would move the date to Sept.

Yep, leave it to me to be off topic. Feel like I need to relocate somewhere near I-30 though. I need to build a perfectly on topic vehicle, but never drive it further than a few miles from home. Then I'll fit in with the majority here! :D:D:D

I'll remind you that some of us had our rides all the way down in KY last year!

  16. Don’t worry Brother, I’m off topic too, I love alternators, disc brakes, and electronic ignition.

My favorite place in the 70s was on US 30 two miles east of interstate 65

Bill, I don't think you are suppose to stop at red lights in South Chicago unless you are native to the area...

And what is wrong with a truck being slightly off topic around here anyway?
Weren't most trucks off topic before 65?
Only a select few were built into hot rods back then.

Back in 2010 i un-suspectedly drove my roadster on rt 30 through there on the way to Bonneville. I felt a little 'out of my element' at the stoplights....got some nods from a 20"+ wheeled cruiser though. Kept my 13" cresent wrench protection close and tried to play it cool.LOL. what a funny memory from that trip.

Now that i think about it, the worst part was trying to keep my clutch leg from giving out with all of the lights on rt 30 there.

  24. On Clay street!

  25. Where Rt 30 runs past the tip of lake Michigan is my stomping grounds. South of 30 is much more rural than north hence the “hillbilly” south of 30 thing. That’s all changing in modern times tho:D on topic pic of Loyd and Bill at Lloydfest

My understanding from experience for GM Metric disc brakes like yours appear to be is that 14" disc brake wheels will fit, but 14" drum brake wheels will not, and any 15" will clear the caliper.

I have 14" disc brake wheels on one right now and it's fine.

Love the truck. '50 cab with '54 nose and '54 bed. Nice! I did the opposite, lol. '54 cab and bed with '47-'53 nose. Mine came out of an Old Navy store. On the bed wood on mine I went through all the research on cutting my own and finally just broke down and bought a bed wood kit from Mar K as the cost and time to build my own wasn't worth the hassle. Wiped it down with black oil based house paint and wiped it off quick so it looks like a stain. Then finished with spar varnish. Looks freaking awesome. It is also my "shop truck" although I don't have a "shop" per se. It's just my "work" truck. When I roll up with it anywhere and people say, "Nice truck", I answer with, "Thanks. I use it for doing truck stuff". It's rough with real patina, original style drive train. I put a '73 Nova rear in it with 3.08's and front disc kit from Speedway. 5 X 4 3/4" all the way around. I had no issue finding steel wheels for it at all when I needed them but finally went with rally's as I like them.

    Glad to see you back.
    Andy
