I know this has been talked about before and i have searched, but I haven't really found a comparison between products. So I have been getting my frame cleaned up over the past couple weeks. Pressure washed, wire brushed, pressure washed and rust neutralizer applied. I started out with Ospho, ran out and couldn't find any more anywhere. I found some stuff made by Loctite in an aerosol can, and tried some of that. I tried the POR 15 metal prep as well. I followed directons on all products used. It seems to me that the sections that I used the Ospho on only needed one treatment. Where the sections where I used the POR15 and the loctite stuff need upwards in the the way of 4-5 treatments to get it to a quality where the ospho was/is. At this point I would recomend Ospho over the other two. But i wanted to get some other peoples opinions on what has worked for them.
I buy a product called "Evaporust" from LeBaron & Bonney. www.LeBaronBonney.com It has worked well for me. A tad expensive but when you are paying your own bills and time is a premium it is well worth the cost. Normbc9
Or just go to Home Depot and buy "Metal Prep and Etch" in the paint aisle. It's the same stuff as Ospho...even clear and green, in a translucent plastic jug. Phosphoric acid with whetting agents, etc. Chris
Yeah, I like OSPHO, it's cheap, available at Ace Hardware and works well. I think all the products do the same thing tho.
I use a Permetex product called Rust Treatment. It is in an aerosol can, and seems to do the job. The can says destroys rust on contact. You can see it change the color almost immediately
Has anybody tried a product called Metal Rescue? Looks like good stuff and safe too. www.metalrescue.com
I've used Evaporust plenty of times and it works well. Helped me save lots of smaller parts of my 51 Mercury. I read somewhere around here that a guy soaked rags in Evaporust and let them sit on a rusty roof to clean it up.
I used some of that when I was a kid on the bottom of my Morris Minor. I can tell you from experience do not get that stuff in your eye.
