Hi Plowboy, I know just where that car is. It was given to a friend of mine by the original owner, Bill Murphy, a farm boy who built the car around 1957 or so. It had an Olds engine in it and he did all the work on his parents' farm about four miles north of Sullivan. I saw the car about 15 years ago and got some more details from a friend of his. Interesting story. Supposedly his parents were worried about his "build" and said that if he would junk it they would buy him a new Corvette. I haven't confirmed that with Bill, but I know that he did have a Corvette around that time. He would be about 65 years old by now. Real nice guy. My friend tried to drag the car out of there and the rocker panels began to give way. He stopped and planned to go back and get it but never did. I recognize the white area across the top as bondo. I put the pieces of fender on the top. They were laying on the ground. Rough car, but noteworthy. :) Rod

  4. I was told that yard was cleared out a year or so ago. It's a 1960 Starliner from a local race shop (now long gone).

Well, I talked to Bill Murphy for a while on the phone yesterday. He said the story about the Corvette was somewhat true. He quit working on the Ford when his parents gave him the go ahead to BUY a brand new 60 Corvette on his own. He said that he was still under 20 years old when he bought it. He had to sell every pig he had on the farm to do it too. His parents wouldn't let him get the dual quad motor that he wanted so when the car was only a week old they redid the motor and bored it out and put in one of the first roller cams that was available.

He said in hindsight, he should have put the car inside a shed or something. Ha ha ha After he got the vette he eventually just parted the car out and lost interest in it.

He said that he sectioned the car with a jigsaw that had a metal cutting blade in it....he was going to do some digging to see if he can find any pics of it from back in the day.
