I just got done with my initial test drive of my '40 coupe.

Paperwork shows that it was bought from the original owner in 1963 and started to be converted into a hot rod/drag car. Small block Chevy and manual trans, swing pedal, gauges, blue glass in the back, etc. The second owner never got it done and it got pushed to the back of his garage for almost 50 years. I bought it from the guy who got it at the estate sale. The engine and trans were gone by time I got it (I was told it was from a '58 vette (but aren't they all)). I had to replace floors and things but that is the original 1940 black paint peaking out from under the 1964 applied red oxide primer. I still have some touch-up to do like the drivers right fender, The guy started to radius it for slicks, got about 10 inches up and stopped. I figured he broke a blade and did not have a spare. It just flapped there for 50 years until I welded it up.

I worked on it all lock-down with a target of driving it out to Bonneville in August. I just booked my hotel room so I better get the bugs worked out.

VERY cool ride! Love it! You can’t beat old hot rods especially 40 Ford’s done in the early 60s.

Thanks Norris. I tried to do it as if the second owner had finished it in 1964 /65. I put in 1964 T-bird seats front and rear, vintage VDO gauges and the like. I did put radials on it and a five speed manual since I like to drive them but otherwise, mid-60s.

Got her running and fresh gas now with 10 trouble free miles now. Time for a deep clean and brakes. Over the winter she’ll get a stance attitude adjustment.

MEMORIAL DAY weekend upcoming. Please remember this is not just a 3 day weekend but rather a time to reflect on those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can be free. Special prayers for the 3496 submariners who lost their lives in WW2 and the crews of the USS Thresher along with the USS Scorpion all of whom are interred in the sea.

  28. Many thanks for remembering our submariners. My 31+ years in the submarine family brings these words home! We worked hard to prevent those two disasters from ever happening again.
