Hot Rods Let's have our own 84th anniversary event for the 40 ford...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Moriarity, Feb 10, 2015.

  1. The 3rd and 5th photos are of the Geraghty convertible. Photo 4 is Link Paola's 40 convertible.
The others I'm not too sure of.
I thought I had a colour photo of the Geraghty convertible too but I can't find it.

My all time favourite 1940 Ford Convertible is by Bill Halliday, simply stunning!

They called them "coaches" when I went to Agawam, MA races in the 50s.

"bibles" of my misspent youth. I actually had a '40 coupe when I was in high school (about 1958), derelict body on a rolling frame, no drive train, no doors. It was meant to be a stock car I guess and I bought it from someone with my paper route money. Couldn't have been much money, I delivered a weekly paper that cost a dime to the subscriber and I think my cut was two or three cents a paper. Unfortunately I had no mentor to steer me and the coupe was disposed of by my mother who was not into automotive lawn art. Took me 55 years to end up with the one I have now, all good things come to you with time I guess.

That brown 40 was featured in one of the odd magazines back in the 70's. Still looks the same.

still scrolling through "hotrodz and pinups", only mid 2013 now. Tons of pics. Sorry eye candy with '40s seems to be a rarity but lots of neat cars.

  12. I REALLY liked this '40 sedan. That shot was from the Stray Kat 500.
Sat right, had the right look, and looked killer going down the road!

well how about a little eye candy for a dreary morning here in NH, overcast and possible showers. Same car and young lady, just a different angle showing more of the coupe.

Well it's TGIF, although guys my age have seven day weekends, and it is National Donut Day which gives me the urge to go to Heavenly Donuts down the road. So since the HAMB has a thread on Friday Art, and I consider the lines of a '40 Ford iconic Detroit art, lets have some "art" photos by some good photographers that highlight the features we all like.

  30. I finally started working on this old heap. Got the dropped axle and reversed eye spring, with some fresh split wishbones under the front. Since the existing disc calipers are frozen on it, I am going to swap the front brake setup to the GM Metric style, which will help a little with the front tire clearance and keep me from having to modify the spindles to fit the GM Intermediate calipers.

I was able to de-arch the rear springs some, which leaves me with about 3" to go to get it sitting closer to the right altitude. Blocks will go in to achieve that.

While I understand this isn't how lowering blocks are intended to be used, it does help me get an idea as to where I should be sitting once they are in. 20160605_175145.jpg
Another shot of the current stance. 20160605_175053.jpg Borrowed a Coke can out of the fridge for a visual aid.
