Shades of angel hair and the Hartford, CT Autorama of my youth. Chrome reversed, white running boards, orchid paint, white walls, gotta love it!

very cool, I also have all 1940 plates, Hawaii & DC but no Canada....I am going to paint a map of the US on a 4x8 plywood & screw the plates in their proper spot.

  4. Very good N.Y. stockcar racer Rich Ricci's 40 coupe.

Rich told the story as a young man he crashed this and six other cars at the same time.
At the time he had a Y block the car. He left Kingston High School stood on it, the rear transmission mount broke causing the engine to rock back and hang the throttle wide open.
He tail ended a car at the stop light in front of the school, that car hit the car front of it and so on.

Ricci's own cars were Ford powered-

However he also drove of other people.

I grew up in Rhinebeck, just across the Hudson from Kingston, graduated high school in '60 and that story of the crash was folklore I heard. Interesting to see the car exists.

  7. It still is folklore with some. Most of the guys in my club (The Kingston Igniters EST. 1956) are under 40 and we all know it.

Hey Steve, post a picture of your plates when you're done.

This showed up at a small Pre-War display I run at a park called Historic Walnford which has a restored Grist Mill and 1700s house. The coupe is a recreation of the high school car he had in 1956 - 1957 and the owner had great stories of how he would prowl for new '57 Chevys and was never beaten. Also talked about a race with a '52 Olds with a '56 engine. He had a picture of the original car displayed under the hood, but I couldn't get a good shot of it because of the reflection on the glass. 100_8858.jpg 100_8832.jpg 100_8831.jpg

  14. Did they have any "I trailered my car" to the Street Rod Nats t-shirts? ;-) I'm definitely a believer in driving hot rods!

bchrismer and his '40 at the Northwest Arkansas Hot Rod Hundred yesterday. I have to tell you, Bret is one of the most positive, upbeat, enthusiastic hotrodders I have ever met. He is contagious!

Exactly. If it's on a trailer, it's either broke or being stolen.

  19. Thanks for the kind words, Duncan.

  20. That one is Lonny Moore's '40 sedan. He's also got a killer black '40 standard coupe and Washington Blue '40 pickup. He came over from the Wichita area to play cars with us last weekend.

My first drive. Good stance, but tires rub and the front end is too soft. Have to add more leaves...

Great looking coupe! I had that same problem with my coupe. Mine came from running a 4 inch dropped 40 axle with a disc brake kit. I had to use a posies spring without the reversed eyes. I tried removing 2 leafs this spring. It looked great but the tires rubbed. So I put them back in. The car actually rides much better than my 39 with a Mustang two suspension. I think the cure for this problem is to switch to a 36 Ford axle set up.
