How can you spot the 39 fenders? I’ve heard the curve between the headlights and grille is different between 39 and 40, but the pic is very dark to tell this one.

@alchemy @chevyfordman There’s no difference between 39 deluxe and 40 passenger car front fenders. There is a slight mounting flange difference between the aforementioned pass. fenders and 40-41 pickup front fenders.

That fantastic blue sedan just has 39 deluxe headlights. I know because I built that car, formerly known as “The Varmit”. I can’t take credit for the paint but I did all the mechanics.

Actually Dan, I think there is, but it’s so subtle you can’t tell unless you are right there and know what to look for. Even as a 40 Ford owner for over 40 years, I’m not sure I’d spot it unless I was looking for it on purpose. Just wondered how he could spot it in a photo.

40 Fender and 39 fender modified.jpg 40 Fender.jpg I knew they were different in the head light area. Then a fella from North Carolina pointed out that I had one 40 fender and one 39 fender on mine. I had never paid any attention to it until he pointed it out. I had to modify the 39 fender in the head light area to get the 40 head light bucket to fit.

Also in the West Scott catalog it states that there is a difference in early 39 and late 39 fenders. It doesn't say what the difference is.

He's a friend so he told me the story about the car; that's the only reason I know it has 39 fenders but Thanks for thinking I'm a sharp cookie. IMG_1524.jpeg

The more I think this over and looking at the pictures closer, they look like the 40 fenders with 39 headlights then.

Well, that's probably right, the front fenders that came with the car matched the patina on the body and hood so I have no reason to believe they weren't the original 40 fenders, and it had rusty 40 headlight buckets in them.

I'm just wondering what happened to the kickstand lakepipes I put on it...

I haven't posted on here in quite some time, but here's one that I have stashed away. Last tagged in Oklahoma in the early 70s. image000000(6).jpg
