upload_2024-8-26_6-43-26.png The painted outside grill portion or the in front of the radiator Moon style tank?

    Hello,

This photo is a great example of what the tech committee in 1960 wanted all gas coupes/sedans to do. As a matte of fact, they made all racers, altered, roadsters, comp coupes move the interior gas tank to the outside, primarily in front. But, behind the grill was supposed to be where it was intended. Somehow, the rules got mixed up and the moon tanks began to show up outside of the grill, as the inner area was small or the moon tank was too large.

So, in this photo, it is difficult these days to actually see the correct area where the original 1960 ruling:

If any item was the start of the race car look, it was after August 1960, when the 1320 rules committee made the ruling that all aluminum Moon Gas tanks had to be removed from the cab and placed in the trunk or away from the motor. The options were trunk or behind the grille. Some went a little overboard and put it in front of the grille, sticking out like a prod. Obviously, it was no longer "street legal" to run around with a gas tank sticking out in front for any accident protection.

  8. A bumper iron cover of some sorts. They work well on the back as a gravel shield but a bit odd on the front, specially being in two pieces. I'd give it the "that's one way to do it" comment.

I kind of like it, from that picture, but I think I need to see a full view to really tell.

I like this rock guard! Looks like the bumper was moved in a little too. I would like to see more of this car. That moon tank is interesting...looks like it is sitting where the radiators top tank should be. Are there anymore pictures of this car?

Oh, I see your picture was so focused on the rock guard. If you have a picture you can't share here can you PM me with it?

I took my '40 to a show called "Gathering of the Cool Shit" last weekend in Hutchinson, Ks. It's really more of a motorcycle show but nobody seemed to mind a few cars. I had a great time!

^^^^^^^ He traded the sedan for a 39 coupe at the Frog Follies, I didn’t go this year and he hooked up with some of the group I run with, small world!

  28. I've only seen one pic of the coupe. Looks pretty cool.
