Here's the front of mine. When I took this picture I'd just taken the 205 radials off and installed 5.60 x 15 tires. More better IMHO. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1446269921.823581.jpg

Remember those Marx Company tin toys you got as a kid in the 50s. I had a Texaco gas station. They came knocked down in the box and you had to assemble them, sharp tin and all (wonder we survived with all our fingers eh?). So the directions used to go like this, "put part A tab 3 into slot 2 on Part B and bend tab over". Well I guess it is old age but when I saw this picture recently that whole process jumped into my mind.

  5. Not a fan of visors, but if this one came to live in my garage, I'd probably leave it on there.

  6. ...................I'm with you. I don't mind visors on trucks or '40's and '50's Chevy cars but, that visor looks right at home on that '40.

Lots of nice 40's!! I like the patina std-hard to tell but looks like rear spring overload setup.

Always keep extra 40s around in case there is another depression.......................................

  10. .................I saw that but, I'm not familiar how that set-up works. Is it connected to the shackles on either side with turnbuckle in the middle for adjustment or is there a spring (like a garage door spring) to give added rate to the transverse leaf set-up? Anybody?.............and yes, looks to have maybe been a previous transporter.

It is as you said. Helped a friend with a blk std coupe that had a similar or maybe same spring jack setup some years ago. He removed it and it may still be in his vast pile of 40 suspension stuff-that car came from the south somewhere.

I don't know how much extra load capacity those cross ways rigs added or how much they raised the rear, but I do remember seeing them on all sorts of transverse spring Fomoco cars when I was a kid.

A little more patina- last on the road 1957, I'm told I'm the 3rd owner since new. Axle car, mid 60's 327, turbo 350, 8" rear, early Ford solids......if it ever gets done.

Stu, did you ever find out anything about the original colour? I have been committed to trying to nail that purple ever since I bought my '39, another colour has never even crossed my mind.

The overload spring attaches to each end of the spring. When the weight is applied ,the spring is "flattened " or spread apart . The overload spring keeps the spring from flattening (keeping it the same length ) , holding the car at the same height and increasing the capacity when loaded.

Man Legends47, that is a great picture! Congratulations to the bride and groom, may they have a long happy life together. I am just a few months away from our 50th anniversary myself and my bride loves our '40. In fact since the weather is back in the 60s and 70s (NH in November???) we'll be out and about with it.

Hey check out Lynn Pew's Blog this morning, lots of great '40 Ford pickup pictures. He published M/W/F and I never miss the great photos he has on there and his commentary too.

couple of pics to keep this thread going for the remainder of the 75th year. I think a 1940 Ford pickup makes a quintessential hot rod. There was one around where I lived in the early 60s with a nailhead buick in it. I had graduated in '60 and had a '47 Ford tudor with a 283" in it. I needed another '39 tranny due to my exuberance at shifting and I went to Elmer Hogan's scrap yard in Red Hook. There sat a beautiful farm fresh 40 pickup. I didn't ask how much, figured I couldn't afford it and I made arrangements to get a tranny. Going back next day to get tranny, the truck was under the cutting torch! Man, 12191487_438115533048330_8495445865448142185_n.jpg 12193785_437875336405683_2318432114253966497_n.jpg still regret that day of not asking how much to buy it.

Her colors were orange and purple so she wanted to know if she could use my '40. Of course I told her she was welcome to use it. My wife and I celebrated our 43rd this summer and it included a trip in the '40 to Highlands, NC for the Highlands Motoring Festival. We are luck to live in Florida and can drive it all year with no problems. Congratulations of your up coming 50th. If I would have stayed married to my first wife it would have been 50 this summer.

All those pick-ups on Lynn Pews blog reminded me, in the early nineties there was a really nice two-tone metallic blue '40/'41 Ford PU in Maple Ridge BC with wide whites and '50 merc caps. Anyone else remember/know anything about this truck?
